How should you respond to someone trying to strangle you with piano wire?

Assume it is too late to get your fingers under that wire because they snuck up behind you. Kick their shins? Grab their nuts? Run backwards against a wall? WWOTD?

I think with something like piano wire, the danger would not be strangulation, but them cutting your head off.
also, you are certainly at a disadvantage when someone attacks you this way...I think the only chance to get out of it would be to try to sweep their leg out from under them so you can fall backwards on top of them...pretty long odds that you can get out of it, though.
