We have kept DVPB in our rotation for pick up order since they have taken over Phil's Grill old spot in April.

We picked up last night. They had a full house and people were waiting outside. In the event you want to dine in, they have a pretty basic setup with some booths and a bar. Bartenders are friendly and they have your usual suspects on tap. Nothing fancy but it does it's job.

Simple menu, they don't get crazy and execute what they do, well.

LINK

I had the classic burger w/normal fixings, cooked medium. Wife had the gambino w/fire roasted peppers and onions w/provolone and garlic aoil, cooked medium.

You can tell burgers are hand made and handled delicately. They aren't dense like some places that serve that bigger style burger. Burger is almost "crumbly". Burgers loosely pattied, buns are soft but don't fall apart under the juicy burger and toppings.

Sorry for low quality pictures

I had cheese fries as a side, she has the onion rings. The fries are handcut, and real cheddar cheese is melted on the fries. Since it was to go, the cheese had hardened somewhat but still good. That's what you get when you order to go. To those familiar w Mr John's onion rings, that's what you get here. Marinated in crystal, thin, lightly coated in batter, and fried. One of my favorite OR offerings.

We also got some chicken wings, just for a little appetizer. They are "naked", fried, tossed in what seems to be a sauce made in house. Comes with a ranch made from scratch. Surprisingly good.

Just wanted to get the word out about this place. I figured not many make the trek out to harahan. Haven't had many better burgers in that "style". House cut fries, excellent onion rings. They have gourmet milk shakes I've yet to try.

Anyone have opinions if you've tried it?

Burger looks great. The fries and wings look abysmal.

ETA: Didn't even realize the onion rings were onion rings. That's sad.

Wife's was pretty close to medium. Mine was medium well. You can tell they at least made an effort

It looks like the stringy onion rings you get at Rocky and Carlos. I prefer thicker onion rings myself.

I threw them in the same box for pictures sake after we got into them a bit. The fries were just how I like them - fresh cut potato, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The onion rings are thin cut, string type onion rings. Like I said, they are the same ones Mr John's and Des Vega's Steakhouse put out. To each their own, I like any kind of onion ring tbh

I've been meaning to try this place. It's not too far from my house. Thanks for the review.

I went Friday night for the first time.

Waiting in line for a table ahead of us was John Fourcade and David Vitter came in later.

Wait was about 25 minutes.

Got the 'Death Sentence' which had sautéed jalapeños and pepper jack cheese, hot sauce, etc. Ordered it medium and it came that way. Tasted great. The fries were very good too- ordered some Chipotle remoulade sauce with them. Got a peanut butter malt shake for dessert which was very good.

Will definitely go again.

Ate last night

Had the mushroom Swiss burger. Cooked perfect. The bun is the real show stopper

Love the fries & strings as well

$17 for burger w/ fries & side of onion rings. Not bad at all

Wife and I ate there for dinner tonight. We loved it. She had the Gambino and I made my own. Burger is juicy but not overly fatty; hard to explain. Agree with LE, the bun is a true highlight. We'll be back.

Looks really good. The soprano and gambino burgers sound tasty.

passing this on to some friends who work in the jefferson/harahan area.

I had it last week, pretty solid. I wanted to try the bison burger so paid the 6 or 7 dollar up-charge, but it was good. Only complaint is that after burger, app, side, 1 beer, and tip, it was right at $50. So I won't make a habit out of going (or splurging) there often.

Never had the burger there but I think Desi's is my favorite steakhouse in town right now.

That's a lot for 1 person

We got 2 burgers, 2 sides and an app for $37 and change. We did take out, though.

Bump, just got back, rain sucked.

This is one damn very good burger. Got the:

The Early Bird Burger
Prime burger with apple wood
smoked bacon, cheddar cheese
and topped with a fried egg

I can't think of a better burger in this area (Metry), will be back. Onion rings were very solid even after take out and getting them home.
