It was the right call but Slaughter sliding on his right side on the outside of the bag made it look worse than it actually was. If he slides on his left side, but still to the outside, he was close enough to bear hug the bag and it wouldn't have been so obvious.

Maybe, but he was clearly going for the fielder. He spiked him and everything.

It was atrocious in the 7th inning. That is simply too big of a moment to make that ticky tack call to cost lsu a championship

Seems to me the rule is clear and even a blind man can see he was never going for he base, frankly it was embarrassment to see such a cheap shot occur in the Championship.

Wasn't ticky-tack, Slaughter didn't even touch the bag.

I honestly cant believe a person who watched that replay would ever conclude it was a bad call. He wasn't sliding in the basepath, obviously went out of his way to hit the guy, and as you said, seemed to have no interest in the base itself.

If that's the case then LSU probably doesn't end up in the finals. Bad calls are apart of the game, it goes both ways.

Too many questionable calls gone the wrong way. Some worked in our favor and some didn't. They really need to be able to review more than what was allowed for this CWS. Thought the strike zones were too tight for most of the games, though the finals I thought it was fine.

He definitely was going for him and it was right either way by the way the rule is written. But it wasn't as bad as they made it out to be. He didn't touch the bag because his back was turned to it and grazed it on the way by, not because he was just too far away from it.

I don't care what any of you say, an umpire should not be able to change a game, mistake or not.

If the pros use replay, college damn sure should.

We got some breaks due to bad calls, no doubt. But that does not make it right either.

Replay needed for sure.

Abysmal.

But, LSU shouldn't have put themselves in a position to rely on the umpz

Pretty typical but I don't particularly care for them, especially if they are inconsistent and want to be seen. That being said, either go all in on replays or none at all. Prefer all in as today's players are so athletic they shrink the margin for error.

Have officiated basketball and baseball and found the latter to be more challenging

Umps should have all huddled after the play to discuss among themselves and come to the correct decision. This is exactly what they did whenCoomes stretched on first base. They got that call correct and should have come to the conclusion of a no call here!!

They were uniformly garbage. How did those guys get to to the CWS? Yes, LSU benefited from some calls, so I'm not blaming the umps for our 2d place finish. However, it seemed that this crew wanted to insert themselves into the game and be a part of it.

BTW, where was Mr. "Stay here! Stay here!" tonight?

atrocious strike zones.

This is my only gripe - why even have a plate on the ground if you are not going to use it. Too many strikes called for pitches way way way outside.

I thought last night they were pretty good. Before that, they were atrocious.

I fully understand "umping" can be a tough job and "the call" is made in a split second.

My heartburn is it seems the level of ump talent does not meet the level of player talent. In a championship format, championship level officiating should be the standard...but is not.

I felt like the strike zone was all over the place the entire cws. No one knew what a strike was anymore so everyone was hacking away.

we definitely hurt ourselves way more than they hurt us.

that call at 2nd sucked, but it was the "proper" call by the rules. questionable to make it at that time, in that game, but its not like he blew the call.
