KR is his son Kermit.
Most of these animals were donated for study or food.

Kermit and I kept about a dozen trophies for ourselves; otherwise we shot nothing that was not used either as a museum specimen or for meat...the mere size of the bag indicates little as to a man's prowess as a hunter, and almost nothing as to the interest or value of his achievement.

Roosevelt also wrote that "game butchery is as objectionable as any other form of wanton cruelty or barbarity." His safari, even though it had a massive tally, arguably helped improve knowledge about a continent and animals that remained mysterious to many Americans. Just as some hunters fund conservation efforts today, Roosevelt's hunt was meant to promote the natural world and science.

I've never heard of many of those animals, specifically the Dikdik.

Hunting trips like these are probably why you haven't heard of them

They are neat little animals. Not sure why exactly you would hunt them, they don't provide much meat compared to the herd of elephants they already have stored in their yeti.

And that's back when they actually hunted. They didn't just bait a spot and sit back in an air-conditioned Land Rover 300 yards away with a 10x optic on a .308 rifle just waiting for animals to waltz on up to take an easy shot.

wonder what kind of rifle they used?

Only two ways to study the anatomy of an animal, and that's to kill it or wait for it to die.
