Let's start realigning college football to have 8 conferences with 8 teams and each conference having an automatic qualification
The first conference is easy the old PAC 8
Oregon, OSU, UW, Wazzu and the 4 California schools
The second would be the Mountain West/Great Plains
Arizona, ASU, Utah, Colorado, Texas Tech, Kansas, Kansas St, Nebraska
Third would be SWC
OU, Okie State, A&M, UT, Arkansas, Mizzou, Baylor TCU
Fourth would me Upper Midwest
Iowa, Iowa St, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern, Indiana, Purdue
Fifth would be Appalachia
Louisville, Kentucky, West Virgina, Va Tech, Vandy, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Virgina
Sixth would be SEC
LSU, Ole Miss, Miss State, Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Ga Tech
Seventh would be ACC
N Carolina, Duke, NC State, S Carolina, Clemson, Miami, Wake, Florida St
Eight would be Great Lakes/ Northeast
Michigan, Michigan St, Ohio State, Penn St, Syracuse, Boston College, Maryland, Rutgers

Like the concept but the confrerences like SEC are way above Appalachia

Give wake to the appalachians, fsu to the ACC, and we keep tennessee.

Some of the AQ winners wouldn't be top 20 teams. Just bring in the top 8 and be done.

I did that to even out the conferences to give them each at least 1 blue blood or 1 almost blue blood with either 1 or 2 other Top 25 programs
If you move Tennessee that would mean that the Appalachia Conference would have Va Tech as their major football program

So you play 7 conference games, maybe 2-3 non-conf "rivalry games", 1-2 Power8 non-conf , and 1-2 rent-a-wins.
Makes too much sense, will never happen.

Who cares? If they really aren't a top 20 team then they won't win. If you have been proven to be the second best team in your region/conference on the field then you have no business playing for the championship.
The ranking system is way too subjective. It should be determined by how you play on the field and nothing else.

So Ohio State had no reason in the CFP last year
I totally agree it should have been
Alabama Penn State
Clemson Washington

With over 100 teams it is very hard to gets perfect system. I think after the top 6 in very close years, it is very hard to think the rest of the teams deserve a shot. I'd love that system if I could play bad teams every year and always be in the playoffs.
I'd rather see the best 8 teams fighting it out. One of the divisions posted would have worse teams than Bama, LSU, and Auburn almost every year. Why reward people for having a weak division?

Two of the conferences are manned by former powers Nebraska and Tennessee
Even if they are not good you have Kansas St/ Colorado/ Arizona schools
Louisville, Pitt, Va Tech in the other
You are underestimating a program like Pitt's potential

If I can put Bama in any of those divisions we are in the playoffs every year. LSU would be in every year. Ohio State could be there every year.
We shouldn't reward teams for having an easy schedule in my opinion. Those three listed are garbage.

I like it like it is in regards to conferences. I wished there would be more independents but that boat has sailed.

LSU and Bama have had down periods they have not been consistent programs the last 30 years like a Ohio State.
If you put 8 alpha's in a pen together one will emerge as an alpha
If you put 8 subserviants in a pen one will emerge as the alpha
Just human nature

This is about the most deserving team winning the national championship. Not what you want to see

Going to the playoff and losing in the first round = zero reward. In fact I'd rather be in the tougher division so I could see better games during the season. Would you rather be in the SEC West right now or the Big 12?

Not bad, but you somehow forgot about Notre Dame.

If you have an Appalachian-based league in your realignment fantasy and don't name it the Mountain East Conference, I got bad news for you son - you're doing it wrong.
