We have a stockpile of talent in the upper minors with the big club loaded with the guys that have made us 51-25 and that have multiple years of control. Teams like Detroit that have salary issues, an aging farm club and a weak farm system will find guys we have attractive.

He still wouldn't play everyday, and this seems really clear at this point.
You could play him almost everyday while continuing to give veterans rest. He'll develop more seeing MLB pitching most days than AAA pitching he has crushed every day.

Detroit might be intrigued by Teo or Moran or someone like Rogelio. Whether that's enough for Martinez is unlikely considering he's probably the best bat available in July.

Yeah, I'd think Teo, Reed, Moran, Davis and Martin are among the names Detroit would like.

I still don't see the need for a team with the 2nd most runs in the league with a fatigued bullpen and a plague of injuries to the starting pitching staff emptying the farm system for an expensive position player rental.
J.D. Martinez makes $9.5 million this year and next. So we'd have to take his contract on for next season too? Why? Aoki is on a 1 year deal for $5.5 million.

I might throw up if we had to watch him in the OF again.

If you knew that this was actually the final year of Martinez's contract, would that maybe change your argument a little?

He's a free agent after this season.

You think management isn't aware of this? I'm sure they're very aware, and I'm sure they aren't comfortable playing Fisher everyday. His current success is actually new to him thus far in his career. Maybe they know he needs more time to develop. I'm not opposed to this, but there's a reason he was sent back down the instant Reddick was taken off the DL.

Do you think someone is not allowed to question management. Is management always right?
Do you think we don't discuss and debate topics like why Fisher was sent back down in DAT every day?

1. Wouldn't be emptying the farm
2. We have a legitimate shot to win a World Series and it sounds like Sonny Gray wouldn't take more than 1 of our top 6 prospects. Try to win the whole damn thing.

Well I doubt he'll be an easy pry if we have to give up a group of guys to someone for a SP.

Nobody is advocating a bat INSTEAD of pitching. Except maybe Ryno
Posted on 6/25/17 at 6:23 pm to dhav14
a bat would be nice, but pitching is clearly the bigger need

I don't think J.D. Martinez is worth our valuable minor league talent. I'm not the GM though.
If there was a real problem in the lineup, it would be Beltran and his $15 million that bats 4-6th in the order.
THATS THE REAL problem.

It would be a rich dose of irony for Luhnow to cut Martinez loose for nothing and then give up top prospects to bring him back for a partial season.

That's the point baw.
Thinking of who actually plays in October, we have discussed having someone like J.D. bat behind Correa as his protection. Now one can argue McCann, but what about against a lefty-loaded team like Boston?
Beltran isn't going away, but anything to push him way down in the order if he never heats up like last year would have to be done by July 31.
Springer
Reddick
Altuve
Correa
Martinez
McCann
Beltran
Gurriel
Bregman
And if Beltran just doesn't earn the starts by then, play Marwin in LF and Martinez to DH. Like dhav said, let's go win the whole damn thing.
