In his last college game, to keep us alive? I could see it happening. If we lose Monday, he's going to want the ball Tuesday.

I don't see it happening, unless you are talking about a pitch-by-committee kind of game.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Either the Mon or Tue game would need to be a piecemeal game. Lange is not coming back on 3 days rest.

Obviously it all depends how all this goes. How much does he throw wednesday? Do we lose game 1 of the finals?

I guess you mean Friday. We need him to go 8 and have Hess close it. Gilbert Saturday. Poche Monday. If we win that game, start Bain and have Lange ready for relief if we are winning and need a hold. Start Lange Wednesday. If we Lose Monday, idk. You still need to win two. I'd still save him for Wednesday.

I seriously doubt Poche would start Monday on 5 days rest after a 100+ outing tonight. If he did, it would only be a very short one. Same for Lange on Tuesday, especially if he goes long on Friday.

Well with Walker out and Gilbert and Lange definitely not available, and with Poche on short rest, I didn't think it was that laughable. It all depends on how much bullpen help we need in the Fri and Sat games. If we were able to hold Hess out, I'd go with him Monday, but given our situation, it's not something you can count on.

Hence why Lange would come back on the Wednesday game at the earliest.

I have Poche in the Monday spot but realistically Mainieri would want to save him till Tuesday.

You don't know that for sure, and we may not have to worry about it. If you're going to save Lange for Wednesday, you might as well let Poche go Tuesday, and piece together the first game against whoever. Paul would really need to play some head games and hope either UF throws Faedo, or UL throws Mckay. But, if UL comes back and makes the championship, they'll be in the same boat as us. Are they throwing McKay this weekend?

Walker not being an option will kill us moving forward.

Realistically we would want everyone on 5 days rest but we're in the losers' bracket and down a starter. If we're going to win the whole thing it will be because a few guys did something they haven't been asked to do previously. We don't have many options.

Exactly. And this isn't a conference tournament or even regional. This is it. Down a guy AND in the losers bracket, to win it all Paul will have to do some things he doesn't normally do..

The biggest question if we make it is will PM push Poche and Lange to go on short rest, and try and take the first two. Or do you hold them for 2 and 3, and see if your bats can win you game 1?

I don't know that for sure, heck LSU could get knocked out Friday or Saturday but Mainieri is not going to *start* a power pitcher on 3 days rest if he goes deep in the game Friday. His velocity wouldn't keep up past 5 innings if that and he'll have a bag of shite on his front doorstep from the Cubs GM.

He definitely could come out the pen if necessary earlier.
