Reports now that the shooter asked Rep. Jeff Duncan "are those Democrats or Republicans practicing" about 3 minutes before he opened fire. Damn.
To be clear, there is no report that the shooter was the one who asked him that question. Could have been a random person asking, but odds are it was connected.
I've seen reports the shooter got off dozens of rounds. If so, wonder what type of weapon was used and how quickly security was able to handle it?

Rand Paul says he got off 50-60 shots from an AR-15. The NRA better donate Scalise a lot more to his next campaign than the $4,950 they gave last year.

I mean, aside from there being Congressmen there, this is also a public park with people doing their morning walks and a YMCA is just across the street from the park. The YMCA took some rounds.
This could have been a lot, lot worse.

I'm curious to hear these details as well. Have to assume he was using a rifle as noted earlier and firing from a distance if he was able to get off that many rounds.
It's such a strange feeling seeing this news. I'm around Steve sometimes at various events in the Nola area and even in the most relaxed kid related events, those SS guys he has are on alert. He can't go take a dump without them being nearby. I kind of thought it was a little too much at times, but now we see why they are so serious.

Glad Trump wasn't there

Doesn't Rand Paul have a security detail as a Senator?
Nope.

If Trump were there, the shooter wouldn't have been able to get within 5 blocks of that baseball field.

Fox said one of his aides was shot in the chest. Anyone hear anything about that person's condition?

Thanks Hangit.
The Prop Stop appears to be just outside his territory. Prolly why I'd not heard of him.
It's a good thing he had protection.

Rand Paul: "Without Steve Scalise's security detail it would have been a massacre"
That gives me chills
I understand his overall point, but if the guy got off 50-60 rounds, how much did a security detail really do? I don't mean that to be callous, I'm asking honestly. How many more rounds were really feasible?

Was it only scalise there or other reps too?

I'd imagine some of that was the Cap Hill Police.

Did the shooter suck at shooting or was he just trying to scare everyone and accidentally hit people with ricochets?
