"Fire Mueller" chatter looking more like a trial balloon

After a spate of weekend op-eds and cable news hits from Newt etc., we now have a friend of Trump's saying he's seriously thinking it over
If this chatter doesn't provoke a reaction from Congressional Republicans I think he's gonna go for it

A friend of President Trump said Monday that Trump is considering firing special counsel Robert Mueller, who is leading the FBI investigation into potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.
“I think he’s considering perhaps terminating the special counsel,” Chris Ruddy told PBS’ Judy Woodruff on “PBS NewsHour.”
“I think he’s weighing that option.”
“I personally think it would be a very significant mistake,” Ruddy continued, “even though I don’t think there’s a justification ... for a special counsel.”
If this chatter doesn't provoke a reaction from Congressional Republicans I think he's gonna go for it

Mueller is a friend of Comey. Comey is a potential target in this "MUH Russians" investigation, especially in terms of "tapping Trump's wires" and FBI leaks.

Technically the AG has to fire Mueller. Jeff Sessions has recused himself so that would then fall to Rosenstein. Rosenstein is the one who appointed him. Would be interesting to see if Rosenstein resigns because he refuses to do it. It would then fall to someone lower in the hierarchy.

Yeah, doubt it happens. Just concerned about their scope. If they just focus on Russia, like they are supposed too, then I don't have a problem, but if they start widening the scope, then they have overstepped and deserve to be disbanded..

What makes this even more obvious is that both Comey and Mueller are Republicans. I don't even think it's possible for Trump to find anyone as qualified or respected as Mueller to replace him.
