He don't have to fire Meuller...he can Tweet the truth that Meuller is Comey's mentor and personal friend. And that Comey is sinking fast.
In fact, any investigatory communication between Comey and Meuller...now becomes fair game as collusion or even obstruction in and of itself.
Meuller had best let this hot potato go...because His Investigation - I.e., "related matters" - is going to be forced into areas that become highly problematic for HIM...because of His relationship with Comey. I'm sure Trump will have someone 'explain' this to him.

Remember it was Bill Clinton who wanted the Independent Counsel to be taken away from Congress and Congress agreed with him in 1999. That's why the law wasn't renewed then. Sure, Congress could renew it as Schiff says, but they'd need Republican support.

They certainly appear to have taken a page out of the Progressive playbook. This looks to be a somewhat orchestrated press effort and not just the result of organic reporting. While a trail balloon seems plausible, it might also be a smoke screen.
