That's one person I'm not putting in my group this week.

Chambers Bay was different. They burnt that course out. Players had a right to bitch there.
Erin Hills has always had that fescue. It's nothing new. USGA didn't add it or make it any thicker.
I will agree with you here, and I've played both courses under normal conditions.
Chambers Bay, even during the middle of the summer, is usually a wet, soft, and long course that put a premium on ball-striking. I played it before the Open there, and it was hard not because of the goofy conditions, but because it was long as hell, kind of windy, and had a bit of a funky lay-out. The USGA went out of its way to make that tournament more dependent on lucky breaks than on shot-making.
As the crow flies, Erin Hills is about 100 miles from Chicago, and they have had the same weather we have had recently. Unless the USGA was taking blow-dryers and UV rays to the course for the last month, it is just going to be a long, wet course for virtually everyone. I do think it will be more fair, but length and accuracy off the tee are going to be even more important than usual. I think it will play much more fair than that goofy golf you saw at Chambers Bay.

Poor kevin, I just hope he gets through this.

The US open has always been designed this way and many times even par after 3 is solid
rough like that is not the norm at the us open ... doubt they've ever had something like that ... na has a pt - there's nothing wrong with making the rough a tangible penalty stroke, but not being able to advance the ball at all is, as one poster stated, equivalent to a water hazard ... i played erin last summer ... it's pure luck if you find your ball in that stuff (though obviously they'll have help) ...

This. Players bitched and bitched about Chambers Bay. You're a professional golfer. Act like it
Chambers Bay was different IMO. That was more of an issue of the shape of the course not meeting normal standards rather than it being too hard.
I see someone already said it ^

Should be a great crowd at at Erin Hills. Wisconsin in the summer is awesome and those people will be getting loose. I am jealous of all attending.

This is why it's called the sauna kevin. Take a seat outside. We are all full.

That's ridiculous. It would be cool to have that on one or two holes, but the entire course? Jesus...

Yeah I'm sure he didn't find the worst spot he could to make this video

I'm with him, I hate how the USGA always tries to make the course impossible. One of the reasons the Masters is so great is because you can go low on that course
I get tired of watching birdie fests. A US Open should have thick rough, a British Open should have wind and rain

I just played 2 courses that had fescue rough, one up to my thighs. Some spots are thicker than others
Posted on 6/12/17 at 11:03 am to lsupride87
It's in response to people bitching about the thick rough, not saying this course doesn't have thick rough

Are they actually going to play it that long though? I haven't been watching golf channel this past week with all the baseball and basketball

I've got to tell you this is exactly how the architecture of the course is designed to play in terms of championship golf. The course can't be maintained this way all year from a maintenance and a speed of play standpoint.

What a fricking joke USGA. 7,700 yards and that rough. Yes it is fair since it is the same for everyone, but I swear to god the USGA is run my morons
