Do you use cocktail or tartar sauce with shrimp or oysters?

The only thing worse is people who go to a restaurant to eat crawfish.

They have crawfish spots here in DC you can go and pay $12 a pound- no lie- for cooked crawfish. They put something weird on them and they eat them with gloves.
Look at this picture. I've been trying to figure out what the hell is on them. It's not lemon peel.

Seasoning on the outside I guess

Every crawfish boil I've been to on Grand Isle has had the dip but I do hang out with a bunch of coonasses.

Good. It has something in common with your wife.

Time to move this to OT

This isn't a fondue party, it's a crawfish boil. You should be able to taste the flavor of the boil in the crawfish- not lather it up in mayo, ketchup and Worcestershire sauce (yes I googled the spelling).
Chill out crawfish nazi. I make my crawfish damn good and there is no need for dip as well, but if people want to bring their own / make their own, I don't care. I grew up with lots of people using dip, and that was mainly because the crawfish weren't all that spicy. So I get why people like to use it.
The crawfish SHOULD stand on its own, much like good bbq, but I don't have any issue if people want to dip it in sauce too.

That is Vietnemese style crawfish. They boil in slightly salted water and then toss the crawfish in a garlic sauce (or put in back and shake). What you are seeing is the residue from the sauce, likely garlic and some other spices. These restaurants usually get their crawfish shipped from overseas, so they were likely frozen. Not good.

So, you don't ask them to leave?

Lived in south Louisiana my entire life, the bulk in Lafayette. I've seen dip at the overwhelming majority of boils I've been to. While I'm not personally a fan of using dip for every tail, I see no issue with using it intermittently as a palate refresh, particularly with crawfish on the spicier side.
Then again, I've always thought people with red eyes and snotty noses pretending to enjoy their crawfish looked like idiots.

end of Hwy 1 is Grand Isle. Not really a noted coonass location. Now they did have some pirates down there.
Knowing Alx's pure coonass roots, i'll defer to him on that, like i do on Papist dogma.
