Reglazing Tubs

Basically want tubs to look white again without having to replace them as nothing wrong with them physically. Anyone have this done recently? Are there products you can buy to do yourself or best to pay someone? If paying someone any recommendations around BR and how much did it cost?

It's a tough job and you better know what you're doing.
I had a porcelain tub re-glazed a few years ago and it took the guy all day and part of the next before it was ready.
I think I paid him around $500-$600 bucks.

What type of tub? Most builder grade tubs are cheaper to replace.

If it's an old clawfoot tub, call Louisiana Tub Restoration in BR. They will re-porcelain the tub and can fill any holes for old hardware.

Just original old standard tubs.

I glazed a few hot tubs back in my day.

The tub in my rent house was jacked up, missing portions of the porcelain. I Bondo'd it and sanded it down. Paid a guy $400 to re-epoxy it. Took him a couple of hours and the tub looks great. It's not brand new but it's pretty good. Cheaper and easier than a new tub of the same caliber. It's going to have some flaws but I'd pay to have it done again. It's some nasty stuff and you're probably going to screw it up unless you are a pro painter with a spray rig. It's smooth so if you brush it on it's going to show brush strokes.$400 was cheap. Pay the man.

I've been wondering the same. Has anyone ever used one of the DIY kits to reglaze one? What were the results?

I've seen YouTube videos of people doing it themselves with kits you can buy from Home Depot from a company like Rustoleum.
Looks like a huge pain in the arse to do it. You also need to purchase a respirator as the fumes are extremely strong.
You need to sand the whole tub, vacuum up the debris, then clean it with a cleaner and it has to be 100% clean, then you paint on this coat of stuff that will etch the tub and let that dry, then you gotta paint it with the glaze and you may have to do many coats and let it dry in between each coat.
And I've seen people come back with an update on YouTube and say it only lasted a year or so.
I think you're better off having a professional do it.

I've seen 3 different tubs that were "re-glazed". In every one of them the new glazing was failing. The glazing is nothing like, as far a durability, the original ceramic glazing. Also haven't heard anything good about reglazing from other people.

Reglazing today is nothing more that painting with epoxy paint.

I use red stick restoration for all my chipped and damaged tubs. I'm pretty sure they do glazing as well

What company gave you those quotes? Looking for a place around central Louisiana that could do one tub for me.
