Besides being unsustainable and a massive drain on the treasury, I agree.

So we have a "leaked" document that hasn't been verified and another unnamed source.

I want to believe these proposed cuts are legit, but until it is verified by the White House then I won't believe.

This is how you have to do it. I'd like to see similar cuts to foreign aid and social security (gradual draw down until its completely eliminated).

I would disagree with this one, unless they quit taking money out of paychecks for it. Had they let me keep my money and invest is as I see fit, I could agree. but they forcibly took my money out of my paycheck every single month, then not give it back to me as promised?

Then they should not have been taking money out of my paycheck for the last 35 years. had they allowed us to keep our money and invest it I would have no problem with it.

It seems to me there are much better ways people could use their money than put it into social security.

Are you talking about the larger concept of social security (IE safety net), or the current entitlement program?

How is social security an entitlement program when you pay for it out of your own pocket? Do changes need to be made? Yes. But I have never understood the logic of calling it an entitlement program.

Remember the average person you are talking about is like this.

No, sorry, let's make sure they have some kind of pension in the old days and not rely on them to make the decisions.

I would have no problem with this if he would cut foreign aid first.

Are they "CUT" cuts, or are they "if X happens" cuts?

I'm not starting anything, just curious if they are hard cuts to these budgets, or assumptions made because people or programs will not meet various criteria (but would otherwise still receive the funds if they make their criteria).

What better way than to prepare for and secure your old age? If they had left my money in my paycheck, I would have invested it for exactly that.....and probably would have done better than what the government will be giving me.

Don't get me wrong...I don't want the government keeping my money and then doling it out to me, but that is the system I have lived under for my entire life, and I can't see somebody taking the money I paid into it and saying, "Tough, you can't have it."

I read this as making sure everyone has a fair shake, not that the government should be literally taking care of people.

Nobody knows for sure. We don't even know if this is real or not. It's all speculation.

The joke is hilarious, but ringing it up at the grocery store when I worked there in high school was not. Pissed me off every time. Half the time it was rolled out to an Escalade or Expedition on 22s. 2 and 3 buggies stuffed to the max. Crab legs, steak, juice, and junk food. Cut that shite. It's one of the most abused govt programs.

Foreign aid is a teensy tiny bit out budget.

You would get money as I'm guessing your about to collect SS if you've been working 35 years. Those younger than you would gradually receive less and less until the program is phased out. I'm talking decades to get this done.

If you get more than you put in, you are receiving an entitlement program.

You are probably correct, but they need to be forced to make a decision, so the people can see what they are really all about.

Death by a million paper cuts

Its not a "teensy" bit of the budget when you compare what you could get done domestically with those dollars.

I think we're up to $50 billion/yr in foreign aid. For comparison, I read where it costs around a billion dollars to build a state of the art hospital these days.

Maybe we could build a world class hospital in a poor area and staff it with those dollars? Muh single payer!

Maybe we could build/fix bridges around this nation

How about treat our veterans with the care and respect they deserve?

Hell, SNAP cost $70 billion per year. You'd almost have it licked.
