We are going to be targeting wahoo and mahi mostly I already have a legit jigging setup and I'm hoping to catch monsters out here lol. Thanks for the recs I've been looking at the calcuttas not sure if I want to drop that much change lol

Trolling?
I don't know if a calcutta is what you want for a wahoo. I guess it depends on the size fish. I have ever some 700s and they don't really get down to very high drag levels.
I guess that isn't a concern in a kayak.
Honestly, I'd go with a spinning reel. Like a Saragosa or Tunis in an 8 or 10k.

Japan makes tons of great reels, there's gotta be some good shops there? A shimano tld 15 or 25 is one of your best offshore reels for the money, if you want to spend more than that I'd go Avet or a similar Shimano torium, talica, etc.
