Birmingham.

Don't care about HP. Small block 350 is fine with me.

What type of Camaro? Look into the GM crate motors. Just call them and tell them what's in it and you want something similar for easy transition.

I would not pay 7500 from the info you've given.

This and around the rear body window trim. I have had one 1 gen and two 2 gen Camaros and all had corrosion issues. Is it RS/SS optioned? Makes a big difference in price.

Weak link in 67-69 camaros is the rear window well. Common are for it to rust out due to the design.

That is on the high end for just a Camero even being restored. I've seen Camero SS go for that price.

The price is all relative to what it's worth for you and to the seller I guess. You can get a 350 stock engine for right at $2k and about the same for the trans.

If you want the car then buy it. Hell, I bet someone on this board has a small block Chevy sitting in their garage you can get for almost nothing. I've got an LS1 in mine but you can't have it :-)

If you have a garage you could buy all the tools you need and a hoist and be done in a weekend for I'm guessing 1500 dollars and that includes the engine.

On that car you should be able to change the engine in two days and that's if you have no idea what you are doing. You'll be into the car for 8k which is nothing. Insurance on that car will be peanuts and you'll have a fun daily driver that's cheap.

To change the engine you don't have to know magic. You just unbolt a bunch of stuff and then bolt it back together. Just keep track of your bolts and if you're really meticulous you can keep a list of things you unbolt so you can make sure it goes back together.

Thanks.

I will check that area more carefully. Thinking about a 6k offer as long as there is no visible rust.

When I had my F-body this was and still is the go to place for answers. LS1Tech.com

Fitting a newer LS1 or 2 in that car would be my answer for a reliable daily driver. Better power than what you are looking for, but also cheaper than you might expect too. I'm the B'ham area and will ask around for who could do a good engine deal for you.

How do you know this?

Check underneath. Make sure there is no frame rust. Look at the floorboards.

TH350s aren't very expensive. Do you want a stick?

Is the block cracked?

If everything is super solid, $7500 isn't unreasonable. A 1st Gen Camaro driver in nice shape is $20k (with new engine).

I would be scared of rust. Are there pics of the body before paint?

While I sat around trying to figure out a good price, the car sold.

Guy got $1000 more than asking from a buyer in Atlanta.

Cash in hand and on the truck today.

Oh well. Thanks for the advice and the search continues.

I find it helpful to take a lot of pics with my phone as I dismantle an engine bay. Helps with getting parts back in correct location and with reconnecting vacuum lines and wiring

Well shite.

I was gonna respond and say you can't sit on these right now. The market across the board is at an all time high.

My dad did what you did and had 3 cars slip through his fingers

In 1982, I bought my first car which was a 1969 Firebird that also had a blown motor. I paid $400 for the car. Times certainly have changed.

My opinion is that I would t pay more than 5K for the Camaro. One thing to consider is the brakes. Mine had manual drums brakes which to today's standards is undriveable. It also didn't have power steering.

Chances are the transmission is a th350 which is okay. A 700r4 would be a lot better because it has overdrive thus is much more streetable for modern driving conditions. I would also use a modern 350 crate engine with fuel injection (valve cover bolts in the center, not the edges). They have the same bolt pattern to bolt up to the 700r4 transmission. You will also need a new drive shaft.

My guess is 10k invested in the new driveline and you would have a great car.

Find a $10k-$14k daily driver and write the check and be done with it.

Best advice right here. I have been through nearly a dozen "vintage" cars... all from the 1960's. I've done restorations from the ground up and also bought fully restored cars done so well that they looked like they just rolled off the showroom floor. I have never saved a penny by starting with a "project", no matter how cheap. Even doing your own work you'll spend double of what you could have bought a "driver" for. Let the first guy take the hit... unless you just want the learning experience and have cash to burn.

I agree on letting the first guy take the hit on restoration. I have been looking at 67-68 Mustangs and I'd rather buy in ready to go condition. Rust and underside are a major concern. It's true that you can't do a restoration cheaper than buying it already done in most cases.
