Since its a Chevy the engine mounts (if not all rusty) should be good to hold an LS series motor- and it will mesh with all the existing components. Do you want to do it yourself Chevy Crate Engines?
It's even cheaper if you can find a salvage Vette or newer Camaro at auction.

Looks are literally what made me pick an R/T over the Pony twins. Well that and visibility- Camaros seem like pill boxes.
