Cut off New Orleans

Mayor Landrieu is trying to score political points with his "government by darkness' grandstanding. These monuments were not issue at all. I ask all lawmakers in the House and Senate in Louisiana to cut off all non-critical sources of revenue to the City of New Orleans. I do not want to hurt any people; I just want them to show Mitch how hardball is really played.

I assure you, I am not a fool. Does it not concern you that government takes action under the cover of darkness. Does it not concern you that a statue that is on the National Historic Register has been removed, because the Mayor of New Orleans ordered it to be removed? These statues were not an issue. I would venture to say that at least 80 percent of the people in the City of New Orleans couldn't even tell you what the monuments were about. Why doesn't the mayor do something about the crime, drugs, streets, etc. in the city. The answer is simple he doesn't care. He is only trying to score political points to get elected to some office; he is finished politically after this fiasco.

And that is why it's no big deal that they are coming down

I do not blame you. I was born in New Orleans and am one of those terrible people whose family moved to the suburbs. All you have to do is look at what the city has become to understand what has been going on there. The crime, drugs, blight, poor roads, poor service, etc. are disgraceful.

The duly elected City Council of NO voted 5-1 to take down those four monuments. Lee, Davis, and Beauregard were traitors who fought against the United States of America as they each broke the oath to the USA they took at West Point. Their statues glorify these men and that should not happen. They should be remembered in museums and in history books and classes as they played a role in US history. But the public glorification of these guys is simply not appropriate.

How did Davis break his oath? For the record, the Constitution (read it) makes no mention of secession. Secession was not illegal my friend. The states that these men lived in seceded from the Union. As citizens of those states, they were under no obligation to the government of the United States. Of course using your logic, our forefathers were all traitors to the King, correct?

So 5 people get to make the decision to take them down?
That's bullshite.

NOLA citizens (most of who are not from there originally) in general are for the takedown. They're liberal and that's what they do.
The people most upset are those who grew up in the city and because of the crime, moved to the suburbs. There's a good chance that many of those ppl will stop spending their money in NOLA.
Also, in the immediate South, there are many that are really mad and also will stop visiting. For a city that needs every tourist dollar, even 10% less visitors is devastating.
The libs Trump haters normal response is "Stay away, we don't want you anyway". Well Detroit didn't implode overnight.
I think the NOLA we knew is gone, there's a new ruling class in town. Either you play by their rules or just don't visit.
I don't travel anywhere I don't feel welcome and NOLA is now one of those places. It's not the Monuments, I'm not a Confederate legacy. It's the transplants who have taken over and are systematically turning NOLA into Seattle.
There are plenty of places that are nice to visit and appreciate your money.

That's bull shite.
Remind me again when you expect to vote on every other issue that these people were elected to represent us with? Or why is this one uniquely deserving of city wide vote?

Without new orleans we're just mississippi

New Orleans is the economic engine of the state and floats the bulk of taxes.
Nola has gentrified and the suburbs are for the poor now.

they moved to suburbs because they are too poor to afford to live in the city

The mayor railroaded it through a worthless city council. NOLA is majority black, why was this not put to the people? A referendum to gauge the will of the people would have quieted all this lunacy.
Mitch is a complete piece of shite, plain and simple.
