This is the most ridiculous shite i've ever read.

thats the thing. The comercial guys are pushing the laws in the footsteps of the northeast and northwest. they want to control he catch of all species in the gulf just like they do in the areas i just mentioned.

If Graves cant get the push at the Federal level, the State's need to go the same route as trout and redfish.

What do you mean by this? Since you really don't catch speckled trout in federal waters, why would they have any say?

well from the little that i know is that you make the fish a game fish, commercial gays cant come to port to sell. therefor it eliminates the commercial fishing of the snapper.

IDK maybe someone can expound on that.

Oh ok, I see what you're saying. I don't think it's that simple....the difference may come in that you're now dealing in Federal Waters.

It's what I do. If the game wardens ask me, I catch all my snapper at GI 22. Who woulda thought they had big sows that close in? Ha

Is there any way to get a ticket doing this? Not that I ever snapper fish but this seems like the obvious way to "stick it to the man".

As long as they don't stop you outside of 9 miles, they cannot prove where you caught them. I have seen them bouncing around the rigs around 9 miles just checking license and limits. The state has a lot of money to lose in this fight so I don't see them harassing us too much.

it gets somewhat complicated on the open gulf. my understanding is: the LDWF can write citations in federal waters for federal and state violations but the feds cannot write citations in state waters for state violations but can write you up for federal violations. however, USFWS is/was dependent on LDWF for a boat ride to patrol state/federal waters. but USCG can enforce federal fisheries laws.
my long and short of it: be respectful, do what you think is right, and DON'T GET CAUGHT

Mack you are correct on all of that. I read up on it back when there was the 3 or 9 mile state line debate a few years ago. It sucked back then because you could get stopped at 5 miles out by LDWF and be all good but then Coast Guard could stop you right after and bust your arse. I had seen LDWF at 43AA one time checking limits. It was during federal season. I believe it was Magnuson-Stevens Act that allowed them to patrol in federal waters.

They blame the state season yet the charter captains got an increase to 49 days! If the stock is truly suffering due to overfishing in state waters everyones season should be reduced yet theirs was increased. It used to be the same as recreational but last 3 years they have been getting 5 times or more what we get

It's absurd. I pretty much follow all game laws. I don't keep over my limit and I don't keep undersized fish. But after all the bullshite they pull with ARS, I would not have any guilty feelings if a few fillets were to make the trip back with me out of season.

Everyone ought to go on June 4th and catch em and let em float. Do this for weeks and the commercial guys won't have anything to catch

Would be great if there was a weekend say the one before of after that every boat on the gulf cost said fuk you we're going out and we're keeping every snapper we catch try to stop us. If everyone would participate and come together it would send a message. Probably never happen but if it did...

That one is mine. We slipped the gamefish status on cobia in late in session and they didn't catch what it meant

Also need to get board builders assn and tackle manufacturing on board. Get them to move New Orleans boat show to city that supports fisherman or boycott it too.

That will get their attention
