Kind of ironic to use the crying emoji. Because they're not crying. They got it taken down. And y'all are now crying about it happening.

What's the command on mobile for the crying face? I could get a lot of use out of it when the next one inevitably comes down.

Yet, a statue of that horrible racist Robert E. Lee stood in a prominent circle in the city for 130 years (throughout decades of racial change and upheaval, and changing demographics) with barely a peep from any citizen regarding its existence up until about 2 years ago.

Weird.

I can't argue with this. It's 100% true.

I can't say what triggered this movement. But I can't argue that they should stay. I couldn't give two sites about the Confederacy, and except for three years have only lived in the South.

I can. Mitch the Bitch found an easy cause to champion in order to gain favoritism with his voting block. It does absolutely nothing to enhance the day-to-day lives of NOLA citizens, but gives him something to pimp when he runs for another office.

he can now go to the black voters and say "I got the statues taken down". Despite running a city with a nonexistent infrastructure, an extremely high violent crime rate, underfunded and under-supported police force, Mitch decides to waste money on statue removal and waste time on emergency city council meetings. Low hanging fruit.

I cannot state this enough: frick Mitch Landrieu.

And my objection to their removal (speaking specifically of the three remaining statues) really has nothing to do with "the Confederacy" either. It's just that a city that prides itself on (and in many ways dictates to everyone living here the need for) preserving its "historical fabric" (warts and all) should not be so knee jerk in removing things that have been part of the fabric of the place for 130+ years. It's all part of what leads to it being an interesting place.

Now you're just being as dramatic as the SJWs you love to bitch about. You're no different, just on opposite sides of an issue.

It's amazing how many people here don't seem to realize this.

one of the things i've read in facebook comments on this issue ,which may or may not be troubling, is the sentiment that people's extreme levels of concern about the monuments are a good reason to take them down

No, you are dead wrong. There is a contingent of people on both sides of this where it's like a contest who can care the least about these monuments. It's juvenile as hell. "Lol you care about the statues you snowflake." Dumb. The fact is there is nothing wrong with caring about the statues either for or against them. They are emotionally powerful icons that represent a culturally important history. If you don't care about them then fine but that doesn't mean you somehow win the argument.

What are you doing with your life that a statue is affecting you in such a way?

Hey hey, Cool-Mo-Dee, your side is the one ripping them down.
