Watched it for the first time recently. It was decent, but I was expecting more. Much more.

if Band of Brothers is considered a mini series, i'd put it up there with Lonesome Dove.

Agreed but for a late 80s period network TV mini series? It's LD and Roots.

I also watched it all the way through for the first time recently. You have to look pas the 80's TV production quality. But even still, it holds up.

People will always wonder what could have been if John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart could have done the original movie idea.

McMurtry really has a gift for memorable characters. His storytelling is a little hit or miss, (obviously LD was a grand slam), but Gus and Clara are with me forever.

Texasville is a great one too.

Money well spent, Jake...BOTH TIMES!!

Also, few people realize Blue Duck was Chef in Apocalypse Now.

The interaction between Gus (Robert Duvall) and Woodrow (Tommy Lee Jones) is about as good as it gets.

Yep. The way July Johnson's jaw dropped when Gus took out all those comancheros was gold. Something like "you killed every one of them. I didn't even draw my gun" or something.

This is a series I can watch a couple times a year or more and never get tired of it. The acting talent from top to bottom was incredible.
