$ and family... but the cons are outnumbering the pros in this growing liberal society... looking to leave

Same here.
For what my household pays in taxes and what we get in return, it is not worth it to live in LA any longer.
And I'm partially to blame for a lot of this as I was a registered Dem for years and voted for the likes of Landrieu, etc.
Only vote I'm not ashamed of was Holden (twice)

agree... my property taxes more than doubled & just paid 10% sales tax on a brand new vehicle... this place is broken

Moved from LaPlace to Baton Rouge six years ago for my job.
Anyone I've talked to that's moved out of state from here, trashes BR like there's no tomorrow. I like it here, but can understand why others prefer to live elsewhere.

I decided to rent for the remainder of my time here bc my property taxes nearly doubled as well, but the parish I now live in refuses to do simple things like fix drainage (simply maintaining current systems even), pick up garbage, etc. Not to mention the public schools are a joke. I could go on and on. I sold my home and now renting until my family and I decide where we end up.

Baton Rouge because of a job currently. Louisiana in general because all my family lives here, and I couldn't imagine life without them.

My job is here; if could get same job elsewhere, would seriously consider leaving BR but not the state.

The oil fields did back in the 80s, but I left in '86 and have only come back to visit since.

Moved away for 5 years, came back for a couple of years, then moved away again. All work based. There are definitely worse places to live in this country than Baton Rouge. I don't ever plan on moving back to south Louisiana because the climate is terrible and it seems like you're just rolling the dice on what natural disaster will eventually destroy you or your loved ones home.

I have been gone 12 years and would move back IF the money was right. I didnt realize how much I missed it until I left and living in Virginia I rarely eat at local restaurants, because they suck, especially the seafood.

Lafayette and New Orleans are the only places worth living in. In Lafayette, there are certain parts of town that I'd live in (currently do) that are really fun and nice, but other parts I would never live in. In New Orleans, I'd probably only want to live around Lakeview.
Other than that, Louisiana is pretty shitty. Nothing but corrupt politicians and a borderline illiterate population keeping the state from ever progressing.
If it wasn't for family being nearby, I would have moved to the Pacific Northwest a long time ago.

I'm waiting on the St. George issue to be finalized one way or the other before making a big change.
I have several friends who are doing the same. They've held off on buying a home until they see how things play out. If St. George happens and Broome is forced to raise taxes to offset the lost revenue, things will get interesting.
My folks want to stay in BR until my dad retires in less than 2 years. After that, they said they may move to Texas to be closer to me, or to Georgia, where my sister and her family live. I had a job opportunity in BR last year and was seriously considering moving home.

We moved to ATL after college but always talked about moving back. We pulled the trigger in '13 and moved back to BR. Was awesome being back close to family...especially with 3 kids under the age of 5. Moved back to north ATL suburbs last yr, so we only lasted 3 yrs. Overall quality of life is just not comparable. Miss my duck hunting and marsh fishing but with my work success over here I'll be able to travel a lot and still get a decent amount of it.

Nothing, I'm gone!!! But it was friends and family, once they got in the habit of dying, it was an easy call to leave.

Preach mate
Once I'm done with school in BR I'm planning to move to the Saint Street area. Walk to Old Tyme and football games. Short uber downtown. Can't wait.

Left within 2 weeks of finishing LSU & moved to Texas, then California, then D.C., now for the last 16 years I've lived in Atlanta.
I've recently considered moving back as my parents age.

My mom mostly. She helps us out with our two children. I also have a pretty decent job and a 7 minute commute. One son is in a great Magnet school...Main library, nice parks, etc.
There is a growing list of cool developments in mid-city and downtown that a lot of cities our size do not have. I like my neighborhood and it's cool to see people renovating and moving back in. Especially since that will bump up my homes value. And I have a great house that I had renovated that I very much enjoy (would be tough to leave it).
In 2-3 years I want to move away, but more so for mountains or scenery and an even better job. Have you seen the prices of housing in places like this? $450,000 will get you a 1,500 sq. ft. fixer upper in Denver. Hell even places like Raleigh, NC are reaching Austin and Boulder levels.
