Is LSU hitting really that bad?

I thought so, but looking at the current SEC statistics has me second guessing myself

We are:
3rd in batting average (.295)
3rd in runs scored
5th in hits
4th in obp (.386)
5th in home runs (32)
Fewest strikeouts (218) in the SEC by far. By comparison Miss St. is first with (325).... Do we really miss Cannizaro? Ok nevermind, that was a stupid question

So how do you explain the stats vs the consensus on this board that LSU can't hit?

Someone out there has the situational stats. That's where we've had our struggles.

I don't know the stats, but we seem to not be that good at hitting with 0 outs.

Not scoring guys from second with no outs, not scoring guys from third with one out. I can't remember the last time someone other than Deichmann had a sac fly.

We were something like 1-30 w/RISP vs UF until the last two innings of that series.

ETA: 2-35 with Runners on Base; 0-17 w/RISP

Our pitching stats in SEC play are worse than our hitting stats.

Because we've had 5 terrible starts. 2 from each Lange and Poche and 1 from Walker. But we're still 9-6 even with a blown save vs A&M.

We are currently 2nd in the SEC in sacrifice flies

This is what I'm talking about. There seems to be a disconnect with the stats and the perception of the team

Eta: I'm not judging, I had the same perception

You need to look at SEC only stats

Our last Sac Fly was Game 1 vs Arky and it was hit by Smith.

The Friday game against Georgia and Thursday game against Ole Piss inflate those stats a good bit. Where they are sturggling is timely hitting and situational hitting.

LSU falls to 4th in BA in SEC only.

3rd in runs

1st in SOs (meaning we have struck out the least)

Do other teams not have exceptional games?

It just seems like we are holding our team to a different standard and a little perspective might help. This isn't the best hitting team we have had, but they aren't terrible. And there is good reason to believe the team leaders were slumping.

All I'm saying is, we can still go places with this team

I bet most teams have similar outliers. That's why it is an average.

Make sure you take out negative outliers too

We are 53 for 205 with 2 outs and RISP in all games. That's 0.259.

That includes a 5 for 11 vs Georgia and 6 for 11 vs Ole Miss.

Removing those two would be 0.216 on the year.

We have been 0-for in this stat in 13 games, 9 of which were in the SEC. 1 vs Georgia and 2 each vs UF, A&M, Arkansas, and Ole Miss.

0.295 in wins
0.169 in losses

I get what you are saying and agree. But a low average with risp is a little different than the "we can't hit. Fire Gibbs. We won't go anywhere without Cannizaro" shite that is all over here after a loss

Your question was about where the perception comes from. And those are the stats to show it. People pay attention to and remember the bigger situations... situations with runners on and 2 outs. We have been very, very bad during those times. It's what sticks with people.

Also, if I had to choose between:

1. Good overall BA, poor BA with risp

Or

2. Poor overall BA, better BA with risp

I would choose option 1. Mainly because I think a poor BA with risp is a mental issue that is more likely to correct itself with more experience/confidence as the season goes on
