Unfortunately, this did not work

I understand the process but that was all that was done on her pc. I literally did nothing else. If I got lucky then so be it. At the end of the day her problem was fixed and she was happy, that's all that matters ;-).

FWIW, techs in the field use speedtest.net. It reliably gives a better indication of speeds. The ATT version usually reads out overall slower speeds, but it can also read high.

The new subdivision just north of Amite Baptist Church (on Springfield diagonally across from the old Tiki Tubing) has some preliminary fiber facilities already in place. It's getting close to being ready for the bulkheads (or fiber serving terminals) to be placed. From there, it'll be turned on in pretty short order.

my neighborhood got the fiber ran last summer with still nothing about it being turned on. Im pissed and ready to get rid of cox.

I have the 1Gbps (1000mbps) plan and I know there is not a data cap.
I think on the slower speeds there is a data cap.

How would I find out when fiber would be available in my neighborhood besides the interactive map that tells me nothing? I'm not in the BR area.

To the best of my knowledge, there's no definitive place to get a listing of which neighborhoods are next in line. All the interactive map is good for is telling you the major metropolitan areas where fiber is being rolled out (i.e., Baton Rouge). From there, ATT's strategy is to get the service into places where the cost-per-home is the cheapest. So, in greater BTR for example, major subdivisions and apartment complexes get higher priority.

There ARE a few things you can look for to determine if (1) a neighborhood is wired for fiber or (2) will be coming online shortly. First, you can look for the presence of fiber markers in/around the neighborhood:



If it's an older neighborhood (with ATT copper facilities in place), you can look for the existence of CFSTs. I couldn't find a readily-available photo of these online, but they are typically two tan, square boxes--one about 3.5' tall and one about 2' tall--that are usually side-by-side. They usually hang out in utility servitudes, and they may be adjacent to cable boxes, ATT copper facilities, and even power boxes. In Easterly Lakes subdivision (north of Watson), they are supposed to be in the rear utility servitudes, but, in actuality, they are located in the rear of various resident's fenced backyards. If you live in a neighborhood with lots of fences, be sure to check around all of those general areas.

If it's a newer neighborhood, you can also look for a true fiber serving terminal--something that looks like this:



These are principally used in neighborhoods which were never wired with copper.

Finally, if it's a neighborhood using OptiTap technology, you will either see the Fiber Tap Multiport Terminal Closures up on poles or, in most cases, they will be underground.



Obviously, you won't be able to see them underground, but you can look for the boxes they are in. The boxes have a concrete lid that's about 2'x3' with the ATT logo clearly visible. Many times they will be near the fiber markers noted above.

One more thing--the conduit we use to run fiber into neighborhoods (or, more specifically, from any/all of our facilities described above to near our customers' homes) is bright orange. If you see a spool of bright orange conduit being placed, there's a pretty good chance that area will be active for fiber in fairly short order. We also have handholes placed near homes where fiber is available. These look like typical water meter lids, but they are a shade of green and, again, they have the ATT logo. Also, if you look inside, you should see the orange conduit mentioned above and the occasional, highly-motivated water moccasin.

How far down are neighborhoods that don't currently have any ATT lines run. I'm on Tigerbend and we have no ATT services but I'm itching to cut loose from Cox. Years away?
