I read the stuff like them meeting in Home Depot and a lot of money making schemes were on point. I think most of this board probably got a kick out of the dudes with awful New Orleans accent using Johnny sac for some Katrina funny business.
I just have a hard time believe that tony would talk on the phone as much as he did in the show. They undoubtly were tapping his phone and they talked a lot of business on that "beep beep beep da beep" phone

Tony as a mafia boss was just very unrealistic. Bosses don't murder people like he did. That task is for soldiers and wannabes. He also makes himself too easy of a target. Just strolls down the driveway in his robe to get the paper every morning, drives all the time without a bodyguard, etc. Seeing a shrink, particularly a woman, wouldn't happen.
I loved the show but no mob boss would survive very long acting like him

I'm not disagreeing, but it is jersey.
He's not a real mob boss.
ETA or rather, he's no a boss of a real family

Agreed....
I've also theorized he intentionally left it ambiguous to leave a movie option open, but of course then Gandolfini actually died.

I really want a prequel film, series, or mini series that focuses on Johnny & junior soprano, Feech, Paulie, etc.

What you mean?

They left it ambiguous in case they needed some sort of reunion show. When Gandolfini really died, that answered the question in the finale regardless.

Vincent “Chin” Gigante, boss of the Genovese crime family, who was noted for walking the streets of the Village near his Sullivan St. social club dressed in pajamas and bathrobe and mumbling to himself, died in a federal prison hospital in Missouri on Dec. 19 at the age of 77.

The shrink thing is just a dramatic conceit of the show that allows for a different perspective on the traditional mob boss. It allows for a peak inside the mind of someone in Tony's position that as far as I know hasn't ever been shown in that same way. You get to see an exposition of his motivations, his thoughts on family, his upbringing and how he became how he is, etc. It was used to ask questions like if he was capable of change. And more. It isn't something that I would use to criticize the show for not being realistic. It's kind of used as a soliloquy as a device. It is deliberately ironic, and the show even makes fun of its ridiculousness.

Yea but that was just an act.
And the robe thing wasn't the point I was trying to make.

I know it was an act, but still, it was different. I know the point you were making though.

Obviously I'm no expert, but I would say a jersey boss is about equal to a capo of one of the five families (although I do realize capos are often referred to as "bosses"), which makes Tony's day to day routine slightly ridiculous. And IIRC, once he becomes boss and/or when things start heating up, he becomes a bit more cautious.
Like I said, I'm not disagreeing. I'm just being difficult.
I agree with Peazy about the therapy. Suspension of disbelief is important for the sopranos, especially with the ghosts, the cat, and the other catholic stuff.

Greatest show as far as I'm concerned. Tony got whacked by the guy that walked into the bathroom. When it ended I was awestruck. I didn't quite know what to do. Really missed the show.

They arent. The head of the DeCavalcante family is not on the same level as a capo in one of the five families. If the head needs to discuss business with a five family group, he isnt going to a capo. He is going to the boss.

It is ridiculous.
After thinking about it, the show couldnt be accurate with a bodyguard there.

Probably so but he still did too much dirty work. He has soldiers that should be doing all that shite.

I figured you might have meant that.

I haven't watched it in a very long time, possibly going to do a rewatch soon, but I don't think Tony died in that diner. I think the sense of dread you feel watching it, looking at everyone in the diner and waiting for them to kill Tony is the dead he will feel. His crew is gone, someone in the family might have flipped and his world is now just waiting.
