Baseball just doesn't lend itself well to international competition because of how fragile arms are nowadays

According to Baseball- Almanac, active players with major league service time, born in Louisiana, are as follows:

Gavin Cecchini- Lake Charles- Mets- AAA
JT Chargois- Sulphur- Twins- AAA
Chad Gaudin- New Orleans- Mexican Unaffiliated- AAA
Johnny Giavotella- Metairie- Orioles- AAA
TJ House- Slidell- Blue Jays- AAA
Wade Leblanc- Lake Charles- Pirates- MLB
Aaron Loup- Raceland- Blue Jays- MLB
Seth Lugo- Shreveport- Mets- MLB
Mikie Mahtook- Lafyette- Tigers- MLB
Wade Miley- Hammond- Orioles- MLB
Luke Montz-Lafayette- Red Sox- AAA
Aaron Nola- Baton Rouge- Phillies - MLB
Jonathan Papelbon- Baton Rouge- Nationals- MLB
Xavier Paul-Slidell- Mexican League- AAA
Jace Peterson- Lake Charles- Braves- MLB
Alex Presley- Monroe- Tigers- AAA
Josh Prince- Lake Charles- Tigers- AA
Ryan Schimpf- New Orleans- Padres- MLB
Taijuan Walker- Shreveport- Diamondbacks- MLB
Josh Wall- Walker- White Sox- AAA
That is only 23 players... not even enough to make a roster, and certainly not a team I would want competing against the Puerto Rico team we just saw.

quote:yes a Republican controlled Senate and Trump will tip the balance of power so the US can win a baseball tourney
They have a voting referendum in June on their ballot and from the numbers I have seen they will become the 51st state

If they no longer want to control their own island the US has no other choice but to allow them to become a state

You can use the U.K. for an example in international soccer

Every other territory of the US
Only state that was denied entrance was Utah and that was because their state constitution allowed polygamy
Every other territory who went through the process was approved and Utah was eventually approved as well
What reason would the Congress not approve PR unless there is a problem with their state constitution

Ew.
If this HAD to be done, I'd go by time zone.

I doubt the Republicans will deny statehood
For one reason that would cost not just PR votes in the US but the rest of the Latino vote for a long long time
Once PR becomes a state because the Republicans will not control Congress forever they will give away those electoral votes

Regardless of the referendum, Puerto Rico is unlikely to become a state any time soon. Because the island remains a territory, the decision is ultimately out of boricuas’ hands. Only the federal Congress, to which the island appoints a non-voting “resident commissioner”, can grant statehood, which it has not done since it admitted Hawaii in 1959. Until the most recent referendum, Puerto Ricans had never voted in favour of statehood, so Congress had no reason to act. That obstacle has now been removed, but coming on the heels of a government shutdown and a brush with debt default, the legislature is highly unlikely to prioritise a Puerto Rican statehood bill.

Mountain time zone would be terrible

The United States already pays PR way
Granting statehood will actually raise taxes in PR because as a state their would be more investment in their country than as a territory

Maybe in the summer without Arizona

it's a shame the U.S. has missed the boat on state-vs.-state competition in their pro sports... i'd love tournaments like this in football, basketball, and baseball, and soccer rooting for a Louisiana all-star team and occasionally making a run

This country would go crazy if something Iike this would happen
Just imagine how a state like Nebraska or South Dakota would react if their state found a way to beat California, Texas or Florida because of having one great pitcher or one hitter on a hot streak

I played in a Twitch MLB the Show tourny last year and the rules were WBC. But the US was split up into regions of like 4 states that averaged relatively similar player overalls.
It was HORRIBLE. Ben Zobrist was the best player I had for my four state team. Ben fricking Zobrist is a good player, but my God, if he's the headliner You aren't going to attract many people.

Team Louisiana would dominate in the football tournament.
We would probably get demolished in every other sport though, but I would tune into every single game.
