Who here has had a tonsillectomy as an adult?

I'm almost 33 and my ENT just recommended having mine removed. He said the expected recovery is almost 2 weeks and is fairly awful. Debating whether I should put it off or go ahead and have them removed.

I've still got mine. My wife though had to have hers removed twice. They removed them when she was a kid then they somehow grew back and they had to remove them again when she was a teenager.

Had my done when I was 32. It took right at 12 full days to feel good enough to go to work or eat. I tried pushing it at day 7 to go back to work and had to leave during a meeting b/c the pain threshold due to talking too much. Good news is I lost 19 lbs eating Jello only.

Had mine out at 22.
Worse pain ever.
IIRC, they stitched everything up, well the stitch popped a week after the removal, and on a 20 mile drive back to the hospital, I filled two solo cups of blood.

Had mine removed at 23. One of the worst experiences of my life. I don't know if I just have a low threshold of pain or what but it was incredibly uncomfortable. I wasn't normal for a full 14 days and lost around 15 pounds. I assume it varies from person to person but I hear it gets worse as you get older.

I had mine out at 20. Took about ten days to get back to 100%. Only think I ate or drank the first few days was liquid hydrocodone.

I had mine at 18 and was told the older you are when you get it done, the more pain, also told that it could affect your weight and breathe. If I were you I'd get it done sooner rather than later. It isn't too too bad. Was out for about a week and ate nothing but ice cream, yogurt and apple sauce mostly.

I had mine out at 30. It was one of the worst pains I've ever endured. At one point, I thought I was safe to start eating something and my significant other gave me pineapple. I ate a piece and physically fell to my knees in pain.
I went through 10 bottles of liquid codeine though so at least for some of the pain I was starring off into space and high as a kite.

Had mine removed at 35 worst pain ever. I would have given a kidney to not feel the way I felt for 3 weeks.

I was 21. At first the liquid hydrocodone is gross, but after about a week, it tastes like liquid candy. Took about 2 weeks before I could switch to liquid Tylenol... and even then it hurt pretty bad...

People die from that. This is a fairly risky surgery.

I had mine out 6 years ago at 29. Although it was awful, I was sick off and on for 6 months. I felt better in recovery. The key is to swallow more than your mom did and enjoy the liquid percocet. I had the surgery on a Thursday and was back at work on Monday. Didn't eat anything solid for a week.

Had mine done around 37. The recovery was 2 weeks, but it wasn't bad at all. I was mainly just run down. Just do everything you are told.
Had mine done via robotic surgery. Supposedly less pain and easier recovery.

My wife had it done recently. She said it was the worst decision she ever made due to the pain. I'm not sure what hurt her most, eating or giving me blowjobs, either way she was miserable.

Why are you going to do this?
Only consider if it's necessary.
Not trying to freak you out but its something done commonly on kids and gets painful and more dangerous the older you get. I know iof a doctor who had it done around 40 and he died.
If you do have it done then stay the night in the hospital

Jello is your friend. So are smoothies. You can liquify everything in a blender (even a hamburger steak meal with veggies and some chicken stock).

I hate pain meds, but demerol kept me from torture.
