Seriously??? You play for the win, then why not pinch hit for Breaux??

Watson needs to find his way back to the bench as well, he has been struggling since getting the starting slot

You're fricking ignorant. He took the bunt off on a kid that was 14-25 at one point. He was liable to put one in a gap and score the run and be in scoring position. Or base hit ties it. He had some faith in Watson plain and simple. Slaughter can hit----sometimes. Id take the odds he can bunt Watson over and give Breaux, and the next batter a chance. He had a plan and it failed because his players didn't execute. That's baseball. It falls both ways. Didn't for the Tigers tonight Go for the win away, and the tie at home.
Maybe cpm will learn from this trusting of players and next situation, maybe bunt Watson? Who knows. But trust me if you know baseball at all, you know he had numerous scenarios running through his head and a split second decision. He could've pinch hit for Breaux if it came down to Watson in scoring position and tied 1-1.
Just know cpm knows his stuff and did what he thought was best to win.
Always tomorrow. Take the weekend and we're doing good.

You BUNT, period. The bats weren't working and you have to learn how to manufacture a run at that point. Point is, if you square to bunt, he pulls it back and walks at ball 4 above his eyes!
I understand wins and losses happen. But someone who constantly refuses to follow the basic baseball 101 manual is just hard to watch....or pull for. Especially when the kids are on tilt because of the ump.

Obviously he didn't want a tie other wise he would have most certainly bunted. He wanted to win that inning and get out with minimum arms used. You use all your arms now on one game and it's big advantage FL.

CPM went with the lower percentage play and was wrong. He was wrong on multiple levels taking into account the general situation (down 1 in the 9th; no outs; runner on 2nd) along with understanding his personnel (2 freshmen and a soph): Watson has cooled off; Slaughter too aggressive; Breaux not hitting well at any point this year).
Going for the tie IS playing for a win. With a runner on 3rd, does the infield come in? Does Slaughter's approach change where he feels less pressure because he doesn't HAVE to get a hit? Does the UF pitcher "pitch around" Slaughter because it makes a double play possible?
In the end, it was a bad call. And it wasn't the only terrible one that game. Calling the Hit and Run with Pap at first and KRob having already swung and missed on 2 Faedo pitches on a 3-2 count is one of the dumbest calls I've ever seen. Pap was safe only because of luck.

So our coach is still making several in game mistakes, as he has always done...got it, thanks.
Your overly long explanation says exactly what most here are saying, M sucks

What coach would be better, if you do not like coach Mainieri

Let me see if I have this straight. We are ranked 4th in the nation and loss a 1 run game to fla and you want to fire the coach?

No excuse for not bunting. None
The bunt doesn't matter, its called not getting timely hits, and leaving runners on base.

Gotta execute...regardless of the call from the dugout.
Having said that...I absolutely bunt Watson to get Smith to 3rd in that spot.

Oh I deff agree with you. I would have liked to see the bunt also. Sac fly gets you a tied game.

What part of the way Watson has been swinging and missing lately made you think you could count on him in that clutch situation? He has been struggling mightly, especially when a hit was needed. Hell he didn't even swing the bat one time in that last at bat

I think the pitcher was pitching around him anyway. He swung at ball four in his eyes and was called out on ball below knees. The one strike in the that at bat that was a strike was on outside corner and low. He wasn't giving Slaughter anything and was hoping he eould zing at that crap....and Slaughter took the bait

Besides Deichman this lineup really has no pop in it. Yea every once in a while somebody else will get one but with Romero and woley on the bench we are a small ball team and don't play small ball shake up the bottom part of the lineup and give them 2 more then one game to find it and make a difference
