It's actually relaxing and enjoyable. I'm not a millennial. An older guy I knew logged his sightings and he would go on trips especially for this, such as cruises off the west coast to spot seafaring birds.
ETA one of his kids bought him these one Christmas and he wore them to work

Yep, I have a thirty something buddy who bird watches with his BIL....who's british. The travel just for a chance to see a bird they haven't seen.
