The info is sold to insurance companies and to the NCIC (National Crime Information Center)

Ask the kid from Clinton MS after he gave sample to Ancestry.com and why he was arrested for a crime in Colorado.

Don't know about 23 and me but if you do it through ancestry then the mormons will have you DNA. Who knows what they will do with it.

If it weren't for promethease and similar sites, the 23andme data would be near useless by itself, as it's no longer allowed to tell you that sort of stuff (FDA crackdown).

I did and the result indicated that I shared DNA with the small % of a clan of people with males possessing greater than a 12.5" penis. I am elated that I finally "fit in" somewhere and am not just a physical freak!

23andme's wellness reports are basic:

Traits are mostly high-school biology... hair color, widows peak, etc. Stuff you probably already know about yourself. 23andme is not allowed to call out the kind of stuff that you'll get from inputing your raw data into promethease, such as risk factors for diabetes, obesity, cancers, heart disease, metabolism of certain drugs, etc.

In promethease, you'll want to pay attention to how this information was obtained -- for example, it might tell you that you have a genotype that makes you 2x more likely to get prostate cancer, but the details might say it's based on a study of 25 Korean people -- hardly conclusive. That's probably why 23andme fell into some hot water -- the range of quality in studies leads to somewhat questionable data, but all its customers see are the conclusions that they interpret as medical advice.

The medical stuff is interesting on 23 but ancestry helps people find people. Wife adopted. Found mother, father, 2 sisters & 2 brothers
What ancestry service did you do? My wife is adopted as well and did the ancestry dna test. We just got % of what country(s) she's probably from. There were no names of relatives listed. Did you pay more than the $100 deal?

Here's what 23andme shows me:

It shows relatives too (I cropped out the names):

I have thousands of DNA relatives, but most of them are labeled "third to distant cousin" in which I share less than a quarter of a percent of DNA.

I did it years ago. They sent me a cool family tree map thing that connected all of the relatives. The weird thing is, it was a circle.

I'm from Alabama

But from that info there is no way to physically track some of those relatives down correct? That would be a premium and expensive service I imagine.

I thought about it, but I'm lazy and your mom wasn't available to provide a sample of my DNA.

Does it message an entire group of people? Sorry but I don't understand. My wife's results just said % and country names etc. There were no actual names of potential relatives.

No. My skin is much darker than anyone in my immediate family. Not trying to pay $200 to confirm I'm secretly adopted.

"adopted" is now code for your mom liked the BBC?
