Mephisto. Quality, style, and comfort.

Ecco. I'm a real fan of the look of Johnston and Murphy, but not a fan of the way they fit

I usually go with Cole Haans or Rockports. Not too expensive and fit my feet well.

Spend $350 on Allen Edmonds and wear for 20 years, or spend $150 on anything else and wear for 2 years.

Some may scuff at the idea but I bought used Allen Edmonds from eBay and they are in fantastic condition. Was $60 for brown Park avenues. When they get to the point where they need to be redone, I'll send them to Allen Edmonds and get them completely redone for 150.

I've got a few AEs, Ferragamo, Magnanni, but I like my To Boot shoes more than any of the others. I've had a pair of their Chelseas now forever. I'm hard on those shoes and they still look fantastic. I take them to the cobbler about once a year or so, and they come back good as new.

Allen Edmonds has a sale once or twice a year. That's what I get when I need some.

Allen Edmonds. Have 8 pairs I rotate. Some are 13 years old. Have put a lot of soles on the older ones but they still look great.

Alden - used to be Allen Edmonds, but that last few pairs of AE I bought had some issues.

Allen Edmonds, hands down.

A close second (a little more casual): Bass Weejuns

Either will last forever if you take care of them. There is nothing quite as good for the psyche than knowing that you are wearing premium quality apparel and accessories. If you take the cheap route, your bearing will reflect it.

Buy the best clothes you can afford, even if it means buying fewer pieces. Make sure they fit correctly. Your bearing will reflect that as well.

Anything less is not worthy of your eminence. Lesser men will tremble in your wake.

When you hit the big time, go to Italy and get a few pairs of custom shoes made.

Bostonian is going to be a better bet on durability than Cole Haan, usually cheaper too
