Rick is probably the most well versed international traveler of anyone.

Steves is an active Lutheran and has written and hosted educational videos on subjects such as Martin Luther and the European Reformation. Steves supports Liberation theology. He has been a speaker for the Lutheran Peace Fellowship.

Steves is of Norwegian ancestry. Sister Jan Steves is an Iditarod racer. He was married to Anne Steves until 2010, when they divorced. They are the parents of two grown children: Andy Steves and Jackie Steves.

Steves spends about a third of every year in Europe researching guidebooks and filming TV shows. His home and his Back Door Production headquarters are in Edmonds, Washington.

Eh, he's kinda an a-hole. He's a huge pothead and when asked about it, he said people who disagree with him don't need to be taking his tours.

That's what being a Protestant's all about. That's why it's the church for me. That's why it's the church for anyone who respects the individual and the individual's right to decide for him or herself. When Martin Luther nailed his protest up to the church door in fifteen- seventeen, he may not have realised the full significance of what he was doing, but four hundred years later, thanks to him, my dear, I can wear whatever I want on my John Thomas,........and, Protestantism doesn't stop at the simple condom! Oh, no! I can wear French Ticklers if I want.

I like his shows. He actually talks about stuff you'd want to see and do rather than the shows on the travel channel where it's full of guitars, crazy camera angles, and everything tries to be to the extreme. I guess that's a result of being on PBS where they don't cater to man children.

He spends a third of the year in Europe just doing research. It cost him his marriage, IMO

I'd give up marriage for a third of each year touring Europe researching.

Rick's kind of a douche.

I'm heading to Amsterdam next week, and his descriptions of the Dutch masters' paintings from the golden age is obnoxious. I was excited about seeing them, and his descriptions were kind of a downer.

That being said, I am jealous of him. He has a great job.

Hard to watch one of his shows without having to endure 3-4 cheesy puns. He obviously knows he's the biggest nerd ever but gives no sh1ts.

Rick is a good gateway travel guy. Once you travel a bit, you see the limitations of his and other travel shows. We watched his show on Lisbon and almost didn't go because it was so boring. Did some other research and are headed there this summer. Oh...And Travel Board.

I consider myself an avid traveler but cannot get myself to like him, his specials, or his books. He's pretentious and his voice makes me want to nose dive into a ravine.

This is about Rick. Not traveling.

This thread stays here.

He used to take his family with him when he filmed for PBS. I wonder if that stopped and took a toll on his marriage.

Also, I've always thought he was Canadian.

I was disappointed when I bought his book Europe Through The Back Door and found out that it wasn't about how to have anal sex throughout Europe.
