You can have all the picks you want. If you can't hit on the picks it doesn't matter. History tells us this team can't draft
So what are they supposed to do then? Just forfeit all their draft picks? We can't draft!! Guess we don't need any picks!
idiocy

well, our top 5 picks SHOULD be a
DE,
CB,
RT
LB-we cannot count on ellerbe or anthony
S
in no particular order after a DE with our first pick which is a MUST.
but, this is the payton/Loomis show.
we may end up with another useless QB pick or a RB or who knows. remember who we are dealing with here.

Nothing we can do now but to hope we can hit on at least 2-3 of the defensive players we take this year.!
We hit on most of our picks last year with MT13, Rankins, Bell, Onyemata, etc.
We need to hit on four picks like that again this year to have a chance in the division

Ginn may not even make the final roster. Watch.

1) We aren't stellar @ drafting
2) It's not about getting ridding of Cooks. It's about the fact that most people felt we didn't get as much as we should have for him.
IF the reports of the Titans offering their 18th are true, I'm not sure why we didn't take that deal instead.

Dude is a midget what makes them think in their right mind he was anything more than a gadget player and go route receiver. He is a prime example of why we suck at drafting.

Again, the "WR 1" "WR 2" is bullshite. All of you armchair GMs listen to too much sports talk radio. "No, you're too good to be our 2d best WR, so we must get rid of you."
I understand that at some point the Saints might've had to choose bw paying more money to Cooks or Thomas, but that decision was several yrs in the future, yes?
Saints got reamed.

we essentially moved up 21 spots from round 4 to 3 and got the first pick in the 2nd round for Cooks
Nope. With a 5th year option there is a huge difference between 32 and 33. Tons of teams every year try to trade back in for the last couple of first rounders because that 5th year is HUGE.
Not that's not to say I liked the trade, but it is not a fricking second rounder.
Edit:
And I see this was already addressed several times.

The decision was this offseason, actually. 2017 is the last year of his rookie deal, unless they use the 5th year option for 2018, which must be applied this offseason. Costs something like 10 million. After that he is a UFA, or without the option he is a UFA next offseason.
Use your eyes. Thomas is a better player for us. You don't even need #1 or #2 labels to know that. Saints got draft capital for a player they were going to let walk for nothing anyway.

I think this is an overrated aspect, but that also makes the spot prime trade bait for QB-needy teams at the top of the 2nd. QBs are extremely expensive - much cheaper to pay a 5th year option after year 4 than to give them their mega deal then. If any of those "1st round QBs" make it to the end, we could see someone like Cleveland come up just to get that 5th year option and we could easily pick up a 3rd or 4th.
my sentiment exactly. Say #28 to 32 have another whole level of value than #33 to #37
