I always see this board talking about downloading maps. Does the unit not already have the waterways/GPS on the unit? I mainly fish the Verret area/Spillway

The base maps that are loaded on the unit from Lowrance are not very good. Unless you got a unit that came with a chip. Getting a card that has aerial imagery is almost a must for this area.

Mine came with a free chip that cost $100. Maybe the coastal maps. It's worse than the base maps. Where there is water it shows land etc. at least for Delacroix. I think I threw it overboard.

Alright. So what it the next step? We have always use the boat us APP which allows you to switch to Satellite mode.

You can make your own maps which I am still trying to learn or buy a chip with one done for you. $100-$200. I kno legend has the Louisiana geaux card.

A few posters on the OB make the cards. WHODAT is one for sure that makes them.

I have a Lowrance Elite4 HDI and bought and use Legend Louisiana Geaux Card. Fish Golden Meadow, Leeville, Fourchon & Grand Isle areas.

My dad has an old hummingbird 787 c2. Do any of these chips work with that relic? Looking for Toledo Bend mostly. Thanks.

Not sure it'll work in that one, but Navionics Hot Maps Premium South Edition and the Tommy Martin chip is a pretty good way to go for Toledo Bend.

Louisiana Geaux Card is mostly for Lowrance products.

So in short, to be able to get around Verret/the basin in any of the small bayous and canals, I am going to need to buy a card.
It looks like standard e-card or the louisiana geaux card is the way to go

I rather the Louisiana Unleased Version 1 Card. It cost less too. Always make sure it is compatible with your unit before purchasing.
