The level of self-unawareness exhibited by those who would rather the statues not come down is amazing.

What if they were? Would you really care?
Sure would. Washington monument bulldozed and hell, I guess you rename the capital.

Has anyone laid claim to these horrible pieces of art? If not, I volunteer a good home for them to suffer on for all eternity. My feelings wont get hurt having to look at them everyday from the windows of my home. Just drop them off and Ill take care of the rest. Ill even let the non-offended come view them.

You realize it's not just about statues coming down?.... It's people saying 'Alright well what next? Where are they going to stop?'
If the answer is 'until all the wrongs in the history of the world have been corrected', that is ignorant.

Well, except for a couple years there where he led the army that killed 100,000 American soldiers. But other than that? Yeah, great American.
Bet you thought Gen Sherman was a great general because he won his battles, right????

You must think it affects you based on how much your feathers get ruffled every time there is a thread about New Orleans statues.

President Lincoln made clear in his first inaugural address that it was his duty to see the laws executed in all the States.
This included the Fugitive Slave Act. He reversed actions to free slaves by local commanders. But On 9/1/62 he published the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. It depended on his war powers as president. It only extended to areas outside of federal control. It excluded all of Tennessee for instance. It had a 100 day count down. 1/1/63.
Even then the slave power refused to relent when they could have kept their slaves reinforced by the power of the federal government.
Such vile people are absolutely unworthy of veneration.

There seems to be a great obsession about the civil war. How bout battle of New Orleans statues or war of 1812 statues? The civil war sits in our souls because southerners are in a unique place, for Americans, of being defeated and losing a war.
But it not only was a war our forefathers lost but they were wrong. Tuff pill to swallow. Other countries don't have statues revereing Generals from lost wars. Memorials for the dead, yes.

The good people of Louisiana need to descend upon New Orleans like locust, physically prevent the removal, and show the rest of the country what real civil disobedience looks like.

You answered your own question. Think about it.

Good. Statues celebrating treason to the United States of America should should be taken down.
Another uneducated a-hole who doesn't know that not one Confederate was ever convicted of treason against the US. Life is tough, it's even tougher when you're stupid.
