I have a sophomore at MHS already, but No. 2 is looking at St. Paul's. Get your snark and sarcasm out of the way and tell me actual experiences with St. Paul's.

I went to Mandeville, had some friends that went to St Pauls. We all turned out normal, so i think you are safe either way.
I'd save the $ and just go to Mandeville

They play sports? Because Mandeville is about to own 6-5A and St Pauls is going to continue to fall on their faces in the private league

MHS will save you coin and reasonable certainty that your child will not be subject to daily knife fights. SPS will provide more of a values based education with one hour of religion every day, mass, daily prayers, etc. Just depends on what's important to you.

Save the Money and go to MHS. Lithette #2 and 3 went there one is in 3 year of med school in New Orleans and the other has a 3.9 at LSU in her last semester at LSU and has a job at Philips. Both went to LSU on a full ride.

SPS 05
Honestly, while I think St. Paul's is better, Mandeville is a good school. All depends on how tight your monthly budget is.

Pretty sure SPS just won their 4th straight soccer state championship

Also, I don't know the current enrollment stats, but I know they had capped the class sizes some years ago. If you child is coming from a non-Catholic elementary school or junior high they will probably have a harder time getting in.

SPS '05 as well
I did notice how LSU was just easier for me compared to my public school friends. Not that they made worse grades or I made excellent grades at LSU. It just required less effort on my part to get through it. I have talked about this with my SPS and Jesuit friends and they tend to have noticed the same thing.

I had four nephews go to St Paul. They are all great, well adjusted young men.

Aren't the catholic schools in La held to a lower standard as far as academic offerings are concerned. Less professionally trained teachers. Isn't that the main reason why they are so cheap to attend? I was under the impression catholic school in La was more about determining who else your child goes to school with. Less social problems and so on. Private schools have been on the incline nationally, but parochial school enrollment has declined almost everywhere outside of La.

There is absolutely no reason to spend money on tuition at St. Paul's if you can send a child to MHS. I graduated 4 from MHS, last one last year. All full TOPS, all one or more scholarships.
If you can get them assessed and placed in honors or gifted, it's even better (duh).
Take the money you would have spent on SPS tuition and invest 1/2 of it in a college fund. Just do it at the same time when you would have paid SPS tuition. You'll have a nice chunk of college money ready to go.

What's the opinion on Fontainebleau nowadays? I graduated from there almost 2 decades ago.

I went to Rummel and would like the Christian Brothers education for my boys, but it's also a lot different without many active brothers as there were when I was in HS.
