Was McCarthyism as bad as what Democrats are doing now?

I was a tyke at that time period. Hopefully having air conditioning at some point was the only thing I was concerned about.

Considering that McCarthy was actually right about Russian subversion and infiltration of government, I'd say this is much crazier.

no, mcCarthy was 100% correct about the communists infiltrating hollywood, the press and our government....history proves him out....the democrats are the enemy and resemble NAZI's more than they do communists, and the goal is to destroy the constitution of the US....they have to be stopped by any means necessary, and i mean ANY means

McCarthyism for a period was worse. It is apples and oranges any way.

What's going on now is chump change compared to McCarthy and the red scare. All you need to do is to look up the history.

A different time. A different media. A different population and government norms. Direct answer - no it was not as bad. It was not laced with deliberate lies. It was not one party seeking to dominate all others. It was motivated by a view of Communism and Communists' subversive intent toward the US and our way of life. Was Joe McCarthy sometimes a blunt instrument? Yes, sometimes. But was he subversive? No. Never. And he was definitely on to something. Which is why the Red and pink fellow travelers of the day sought to discredit him. And why their elite descendents today do what they do. Joe almost got 'em then. They don't want Trump to finish his work.

Good movie.

"The film was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Clooney and Best Actor for David Strathairn."

if it means this:

quote:

McCarthyism is the practice of making accusations of subversion or treason without proper regard for evidence. It also means "the practice of making unfair allegations or using unfair investigative techniques, especially in order to restrict dissent or political criticism."

Yeah, a mere coincidence that McCarthy warned us of communists infiltrating Hollywood and Hollywood is full of communists. Just a mere coincidence....

This country didnt turn sharply left in such a very short time all by itself. It had lots of help, and Hollywood and the Media were delighted to help out.

The difference in McCarthy and what's going on now, is McCarthy actually had evidence against most of the people he accused.

Research in recent years (thanks to declassified FBI and Soviet archives) has proved that many of those people really were Soviet agents. There have been numerous books written about the evidence gleaned from Soviet and American declassified archives.

McCarthyism changed the dialogue.

socialism became a dirty word.

Nixon was trained up. Nixon was McCarthy's sidekick.

McCarthy was right. The Soviet Archives have confirmed this.

Communist infiltration of America is what led us to the Obama years.

Are the Democrats trying to make it illegal to be a member of a political party?

I was born in 61',so I know about what went on then about like you do.

We've been told growing up,through School that Russia is the Bad Guy.

We're good.They're bad.

It seems to still be something with some weight to it.

And,I see what the Democrats are doing as borderline Treason. They're only using the "Russia" narrative because it seems to still get a rise out of a lot of folks.jmo

The real story of McCarthy was not while things were going on in the 50s. It was the re-writing of US High School History books in the 70s. He was a footnote prior to that. Then he became a major figure depicted as the most horrible human being in American history.

When McCarthy was embroiled in the Commie controversy half of Americans still didn't have TV sets.

It was worse, and Joseph McCarthy was a fool jerk, and America recognized him as such
