Hey everyone! Looking for some advice. Anyone know what the going price per square ft is on new home construction in SE Louisiana? Also, is it based on living sqft or total (porches and garages)?

Is that per living or total sq footage?

100 seems awful low. Most of the quoted prices I've been getting are 120-130 not including the lot.

You can do 100-105 if you sub it yourself maybe. I'm building for $112 fully custom house but that's a friend deal. you can expect 120-130 right now from most custom builders, some go higher. Sometime you can get lower if you take out custom things. I know of a builder that does $100 a foot but it's nothing great but that's in a big neighborhood with smaller not so custom houses.

Total sq/ft
ETA: I wanted high allowances so my fiancée wouldn't over spend. Our house is custom, so there were things I spent more money on that I had to have. Check out my thread on new home construction at the bottom of the page. Some things in there that will help out tremendously.
I'll probably come in a little under $120/sq ft when it's all said and done.

$120 total seems high, wonder why they would charge $120 for a porch and garage.

He didn't tell me this is what it'll be per any ft you add. I just figured it up when I got my bid.

Thanks! I read the thread yesterday. We have a house plan rough drawn but trying to figure out if I need to downsize. It's Acadian style so big front and big back porch along with a 24x25 2car garage and a 24x20 shop. Living sq footage is 2800 and total would be around 4200. Just looking for rough construction cost.

$130 is about average for new construction these days.

Custom here in laffy is $122sqft heated/$75sqft under roof. Im doing my own flooring. If I wasnt doing that, it would be $130sqft.

This was the price I was assuming! Thanks for the info!

My house will be similar is size to what you posted. I dont know how handy you are with construction, but im saving $20k just doing the flooring myself. Im just putting that money towards my shed. Good luck!

We are working with a custom builder here in south DFW and are getting quoted $130-140 sq ft (a/c sq ft) with 1 acre lot included in the price.

I'm shreveport, so that doesn't help much, but I had mine built 3 years ago for 132 per ft. Now they are selling for 150-155, with the lot. 130ish without.
And you always use living as ft when pricing houses. Porches and garages are much cheaper, but my builder went strictly off living.

Thank you for the input! Looks like based on my sq footage I stated about that 375k to 400k is a reasonable expectation!

It can be from 85 up to 140sqft. It all depends how bad GC is ripping you off and quality of products and how hard you shop for items
