I know this board is mostly people who think God isn't real and that it's not cool to believe. They then try and crap on every thread like this to prove to themselves how right they are. I'll say this anyway, OP how about you try to make a commitment like praying every day or visiting a nursing home once a week. Not saying giving something up is wrong but you should only give up things which may lead you to sin. My two cents, bash away.

Everyone just remember, that if you are going to volunteer, stick with it. I don't really volunteer or anything, but this one time I did and backed out. I felt bad for a few days.

That sounds horrible. This just reinforced my decision to remain Christian instead of Catholic, you guys are crazy.

Episcopal church and I'll be honest I'm not sure exactly how they do their lent. Only been going a couple months

I grew up Episcopalian, it's not that different from Catholics. You pick something to give up, write a letter to Jesus and kiss your aunt on the lips. Just like the Catholics.

I think Catholics should give up eating McDonalds and hot pockets everyday than getting a $20 shrimp poboy on Fridays to "sacrafice." Drives me crazy about Lent, out of about 100 Catholic guys in my fraternity in college about 5 actually sacrificed on Fridays and would only eat a salad or something the others ate their best meal of the week.

Let em rain

I hate when people say this. By definition a Christian is one who believed Christ died for their sins and is the son of God. Last time I checked...Catholics believed the same thing. Also last time I checked all the "Protestant" religions originated from Catholicism...that's why they are Protestant...they are Protesting the Catholic faith in one way or another.

The misnomer that Catholics are not Christian is a fallacy.

You should try living somewhere like Huntsville, Al where the only seafood restaurants are Capt D's, Landry's, and the Po Boy Factory (and the last one is not easily reached during lunch hours from my work). It can be a sacrifice. Mostly I'm eating salads on Fridays during Lent or tuna fish.

When I lived in La...it wasn't so bad...seafood was easy to get...crawfish boils on Good Friday...

Sometimes it's a sacrifice...sometimes it's not.

This is what I don't understand. The point of the religious holiday is to sacrafice. You might as well not do no meat on Fridays at all if your just going to have a crawfish boil.

I'm religious myself just not Catholic, but if you are going to observe a religious holiday you should do it not indulge on your best meal of the week on the day of sacrifice.

How is eating a delicious salad any more of a sacrifice than eating a fried po-boy, unless you're a fatass redneck (which your spelling and grammar suggest you are)?
