Checked breaker. Checked limit switch. now I'm in the frick it mood and I'm about to file a claim with home shield
Anyone have any experiences with them? How screwed am I with this "warranty" I pay every month?

It depends what plumber they assign to you. I find the lead time for most home warranty repairs to be longer for just about anything. On the bright side if the water heater is totally jacked then you come out a winner in the end; just be prepared to not have the option to renew at the end of the warranty period. They do not like major repairs.

Hot water heater? Why do you reheat your hot water?

You got ripped the F off in the first place if someone sold you a device to heat hot water.

You'll pay for deductible and they will come fix it or replace it. If replaced they will probably replace it with an old used water heater Fyi

Which would defeat the purpose of paying monthly for a warranty.

Most electric water heaters have 2 heating elements. It's not likely they both quit working at the same time. It's possible one was already not working. Otherwise, you have just one heating element or the problem is something simple.

Checked breaker.

How long have you been paying the warranty before this happened?

how much do you pay per month, and for what services.
i have seen their commercials, but 99.999999999% of these type of companies end up having to go before a court, on criminal charges.
If you buy one urself, get an energy reduction one, not only did local electric company give me 300, but gas also gave me 300. It is classified as both, since some dealio has to be plugged in. And were saving pretty good money on it, monthly.

2 and a half years now
$58/month. I actually know the contractor that's been assigned my claim so that makes me feel better.

I only paid $30 for a brand new 60gal with my warranty. Best $30 I ever spent

you should be ok with the warranty...the good thing about them is that you are generally not going to come out of pocket for more than the deductible, regardless of what the problem is.
the negative that I have seen is that the service personnel that come out to do the repairs are often pushed to just patch your junk to keep the thing running while a better way may be to go ahead and do more extensive repairs to prevent future callouts. for instance, my home warranty co wanted to keep adding Freon to my AC and charging me the deductible every time instead of having the leak found and fixed.

The repair guys I have had out ask me if I want something fixed, or if I want them to say it's broken

It's a container that uses components to heat water. Unless the container fails (leaks), I see a repair in you future vs a replacement.
