Mash

We all know had it been a lefty recording a conservative nothing would have been done to the student.

-------------------------------------------------

The student who filmed his professor calling Donald Trump’s election “an act of terrorism” has received a one-semester suspension from Orange Coast College (OCC).

The previously anonymous student, Caleb O’Neil, has also received a number of other sanctions for recording his professor, Olga Pere Stable-Cox, including a mandatory meeting with the Dean of Students before he is readmitted, as well as remaining on disciplinary probation for one semester upon return from suspension.

Additionally, O’Neil must write an apology letter to professor as well as a three-page, double spaced essay discussing why he videotaped the professor despite “knowing that it was a violation of the course syllabus;” his “thoughts and analysis” on why he shared the video with others; what he thought would happen to Stable-Cox; the video’s impact “and ensuing damage to Orange Coast College students, faculty, and staff;” “other choices [he] could have made to resolve the situation;” and “[how he] will prevent this from happening again in the future.”

Wow...

A student who pays tuition should have the right to record every damn thing their professors say during lecture hours as long as it is not distracting other students. Absolute madness.

If he does any of those things he should just become a liberal and have other men bang his girl in front of him.

He should also lawyer up and sue them.

Well as long as this professor wasn't talking to Russians, the left has no problem with banning anyone from recording anything he does.

I'm guessing this school has a no recording policy. Most do, although you can get the professor's approval.

Lefties don't want the indoctrination recorded, but this goes on everywhere. Free thought isn't going to get you an "A", it's just the way it is, some things will never change..??

Wouldn't win. The policy was laid out in the syllabus.

I don't agree with it, and if I couldn't have recorded a lot of my professors lectures in undergrad I would have had a rough go of it after all night drinking sessions, but it is what it is.

I always recorded my classes when I was in college. Can't say enough how helpful it was studying.

I wonder if there's any constitutional challenge he can bring being it's a public school.

Reminds me of when somebody filmed my astronomy professor going off on a crazy global warming rant years ago. I made it into Fox News.

The professors policy or the schools policy? I honestly don't know.

I would be suspecious of any professor that chose to not allow recording if the school made that their decision.

If it's the school's policy of absolutely no recording then that's different.

I wouldn't attend said school but still.

Did he agree to the syllabus?

ETA:

I'm also curious if there was a hearing regarding his suspension.

No recording rules are pretty common in college today.

I think that it would be an assumption that he agreed to the syllabus if he didn't drop the class and didn't raise any issue about said policy before the incident.

In all fairness, I didn't even show up on days that the syllabus was passed out most of the time, so maybe that was the case with him? They're easily accessible online today though.
