wife (no pics) and i will be headed up the the Smokies around easter, just the two of us and want to know whats the best area to stay. we will be looking to mainly get away, do a little of the touristy stuff, but don't want to be consumed with the touristy areas (downtown gatlinburg). Neither of us have been there so we are fully open to suggestions. so far we have looked at cabins near Elk Springs Resorts, but are open to any and all recommendations.
ETA we will be taking the jeep so looking for close proximity to mountain roads and trails.

We camped in Cade's Cove last summer and it was nice.

Go on airbnb. I think that's a better site than some others. I own a rental cabin there that I have on airbnb, vrbo, and other sites. April is already almost fully booked (including all the days around Easter), so I can't talk you into mine. But get a cabin with a lot of good reviews on airbnb with a great view, then go from there.

Gatlinburg and that whole area burned down last year. Nothing but scorched earth up there now.

There is a travel board. I would suggest using it.

Highlands
/thread, also not in the Smokies though, props on spelling Smoky Mountains correctly instead of Smokey.
anywhere around here is better than near Gatlinburg.
Look around Highlands, Cashiers, and Sapphire.
Brevard is a neat little town to checkout in the area too.
Go to Franklin for lunch one day (not sunday or Monday, they are closed that day.) Look for the Hot Spot gas station and eat at the restaurant attached called Caffe REL. Highlands has several very good restaurants too.
There are some good service roads off Wayah Rd inbetween Franklin and Highlands. If you head over to Robbinsville, you can take the Cherohala Skyway into Tennessee. There is a road that parallels the Skyway that is a service road that we fondly call the Gravelhala. Tons of service roads in that area.

Towards Cosby? I don't head that way much.
