Congrats, Iosh.
A group of prominent Republicans and business leaders, including former Treasury Secretaries Hank Paulson and James Baker, will meet with some of President Donald Trump’s top advisers at the White House Wednesday to push a plan to tax carbon dioxide in exchange for lifting a slew of environmental regulations.
“Unlike the current cumbersome regulatory approach, a levy on emissions would free companies to find the most efficient way to reduce their carbon footprint,” Baker and former Secretary of State George Shultz wrote in a Wall Street Journal opinion article posted online late Tuesday. “A sensibly priced, gradually rising tax would send a powerful market signal to businesses that want certainty when planning for the future.”

So is this going to be another evoling tax that shows up on my bills, which will result in them increasing month after month? Just like the wonderful taxes on my cell phone, satellite TV, and Internet bills?

These fricks are determined to convince me never to vote for a standard establishment republican again.

This is why I don't like Republicans sticking their heads in the sand about AGW, because there are no such instincts if the Democrats are the only ones in the room.

Well... yeah.
This is Establishment bullshite. These clowns and their clients (no doubt they are shills) probably invested in Al Gore's carbon tax credit ponzi scheme and are now seeking to save it and their investments.
How about remove the cumbersome bullshite regs that don't do a damn thing to protect the environment... AND NOT frickING TAX ANYONE. That right there is a novel thought these days.
Drain the Swamp.
DRAIN THE frickING SWAMP. NOW.

Let's see if we can get through the first page without someone referencing that shitty Daily Mail story that the NOAA guy has already walked back.

You don't think that the carbon tax will have a tax credit program built into it? Really?

quote:It might or might not, depending on the implementation. But trading those tax credits is a feature of cap-and-trade. For instance, if you're assessing the tax based on the BTU of the raw coal/petroleum/methane, you'd need a credit for power plants that sequester the carbon instead of emitting it. But that's not tradeable (except in the sense that the plant itself could be sold, I guess).

Everything releases carbon.
They can essentially tax you for breathing

Carbon that was buried miles underground, brought to the surface, and burned isn't in the cycle and does contribute.

FFS - the EPA is better than this approach. All this means is "pollute all you want, pass on those additional costs to your customers". Like I have an option as to who my power company is.

I will bet you dollars to donuts that with the carbon tax comes a tax credit system that allows for trading of the credits on a market, if not just a modification of the current market.
I'd be very interested to see who is paying Hank Paulson and James Baker. It's not like these guys just came up with this great idea and then decided to pitch it to the administration.
There is money to be made here, and not just by Uncle Sam.
