It sure may be sedge. I do have a lot of that in the surrounding yard. Its dark green and looks like young St. Aug. clumps. It grows fast too.

While playing in the yard the other day I picked our third picking of contender bush beans all from a 4x4 ft patch. They are doing great and two other patches are coming up and starting to bloom we like to stagger them. It extends the season and not as hard to pick em. We may replant this patch after they finish.

Found some contender seeds left over from last year and had a little extra room in a corner of the garden. They haven't come up yet, but this weekend should do the trick.
Makes my back hurt to pick - they all seem to come out close to the ground - but damn they're good.

Update on the nut sedge problem. It's trying to take over along the rows of peas and really slowing down their growth.
A local farmer gave me 5 gallons of something called "Sedge Hammer" to apply. Looks like black pepper and only takes about 1/4 tsp. per gallon of water. Not sold at DIY stores, but is available at some co-ops and nurseries. He told me to spray one gallon now and another gallon in a week. It's not supposed to damage crops at all.
We'll see - I drenched my garden yesterday.

Question for anyone growing cucumbers. I planted some in a pot, will a regular tomato cage be enough support for the plant to grow on?

I have my cucumbers going up an 8 foot tall trellis. They are to the top. I imagine the tomato cage will work but it'll spill over the top eventually.

Works well. It will take some time to kill it. When you first apply it stops it from growing. About a week later you may see it start to yellow (maybe before). Making that 2nd application is what I do as well. Takes a few weeks for it to be brown...it does this so it can travel along the runners and the seeds. I never tried it on food garden stuff but works as advertised in my regular flower beds.

I just let my cucumbers run on the ground

I finally got my stuff planted this past weekend in some pots. First time ever trying so if it goes well ill look at a raised bed in the future. The spot starts to get sun at 8am, in full sun by 845, and last till at least 6pm. Running the watering at 4am for 30min and again at 4pm for 30min. Used miracle grow raised bed mix...interesting stuff. I know the trellis are upside down...the soil and the pot did not hold the other way. Ill let the cucumbers grow up and over onto the ground if need be. Ill spread everything out if need be as it all grows.

Made my first batch of pickles the other day. Came out pretty good. I want to make a few adjustments to the recipe and process though. They were a little on the salty side, and a little soft for my liking. Not mushy, but not crisp enough.
Cut up some tomatoes and cucumbers to have with dinner last night.
And I have my first pepperoncini coming up!

One of my better boy and one of my cherry tomatoes must be sterile. They each had like 2 flowers and no more. The other cherries are full of flowers.

Exactly what he told me would happen. I guess if it eats up the peas I'll just plow em up and replant. One of my best pea patches was planted in June.

Yea no idea how it reacts to veggi stuff. I think it really only messes with the nut grasses. But it really works...I had a ton of nut sage in my regular flower beds.

Gonna try calcium chloride. If that isn't to my liking, I'll go pick some oak leaves.
