Anyone have any suggestions on dealing with caterpillars? They are destroying the leaves on my tomato plants
Posted on 4/3/17 at 6:01 pm to Delacroix
I have used thuricide with not good results. I have found that sevin dust or flour will at least clog up their mouthparts until they die. (Choke on it, bitches)
I am waiting to discover caterpillars on my plants.

Really? I've had fantastic results. In fact, I tried all kinds of pesticides, and thuricide was the only thing that completely eradicated my hornworm problem last year.

I only had one hornworm. Was as big as a man's finger. I plucked him off and smashed his arse.
The other kinds of caterpillars were really hard to eradicate. I am getting proactive this year and trying the thuricide BEFORE I see caterpillars. Maybe it will slay the small ones before they become indestructible.

Well, I'm not too sure on other caterpillars. But that stuff worked wonders for hornworms. My father in law told me to pick them off the plants, put them in a tin can, and go fishing. He said the fish go crazy over them things. So, if I ever get a bad infestation that ruins my garden, I'm gonna make lemonade.

Well, 5 of my 6 tomatoes are struggling, the leaves are skinny, tiny, or almost non-existent on the newer growth. And the flowers are tiny and fall off. Is this a fungus or maybe too much water? They are on a dripline system, about 1/2 gallon of water/day. The soil is almost pure sand which I mixed with about 25% topsoil and 25% peat moss so it is 50% sand and drains well. Two look like they may not produce fruit at all and I'm going to replace them but need to know what is wrong first:
Also - some first year blueberries coming on strong. I pulled off most of the flowers and very young fruit to let the plants focus on growing this year. 18 bushes and they are doing well.
And an LSU Purple fig. The late frost hammered them but they are coming back.

Tomatoes typically don't do well in sandy soil.

This guy has a bunch of great videos. I've learned a lot from him. If this particular video doesn't answer your question, try searching around his channel, he probably has a video for it

You're only supposed to pinch suckers on indeterminate tomatos

Did some major upgrades to my garden this past month. Added a few new beds and built a fence. Got the outside border tilled up this past weekend. I'm probably safe to get plants in the ground right now, but you never know with Middle Tennessee cold snaps.

I don't ever pinch suckers.
Replanted about 80% of my peas yesterday - damn moles have trails all over the garden.
Tomatoes and squash are going gangbusters.

How do you know if you have moles? My dog is digging up my backyard and it's pissing me off. She looks like she's after something the rare times i catch her. FWIW, i dont have a garden, but have 2 blueberry bushes and 1 turkey fig (very young).
