Let's use the $500K number per 30 kids. (you understand that would be 500k/30=$16,666 per kid) Let say instead of filtering that $16,666 per kid through the bureaucracy of government we simply gave it to the kid to use at any education facility available to him.
You don't understand how a school system is funded. The schools get MFP money from the state. That is a little less than 8,000 a kid (if and only if they are enrolled on Oct. 1st). Then they get revenue from local taxes, I'm not sure about the amount. Then they get federal dollars that demand they be spent specific ways.
You are lumping everything as if it's all the perfect classroom. You forget how much does it cost to operate a classroom for handicap kids you have to tube feed, perform physical therapy on, and God knows what else.
I'm not saying public schools are perfect, but charters in Baton Rouge are doing worse. Plus how is transportation supposed to work for 300 unaffiliated schools in BR? Uber?

Only linked it because you mentioned JP. I know St. Tammany, Zachary, Ascension offer close to $45k to start. I don't know every parish's salary schedule.
I'm not trying to argue with you over teacher salary. I think they should be paid more. I was trying to point out that charter schools do not offer higher salaries for teachers.

No place needs 100% voucher funding for EVERY FAMILY more than Tangipahoa Parish.
They should get out of the government operation of schools business and let the schools stand on their own as private institutions and compete for students.

This is relative, is my point. Charter schools in NOLA pay more than traditional schools in the greater new orleans area. That's the only way they can compete because you get way fewer days off and the hours are longer.

Why do the teacher's unions oppose more opportunities for their members????
School choice shifts the salary paradigm toward individual quality.

More school choice will lead to more schools and smaller classrooms and like in any industry create more competition and higher wages for talented labor---in this case teachers.
Link?
Basic economic and business. Concepts obviously foreign to you.

I can't imagine why a union would be opposed to putting their members' jobs in the hands of profit-motivated corporations who have proven throughout history that they will squeeze every drop of blood out of labor to increase company profits and never share a penny of it with the workers whose sweat earned it.
What kind of crap is that?? The union would rather their members be in the hands of corrupt politicians?
Where are these companies that "squeeze every drop of blood out of labor"? do they own slaves? Does somebody make people work there?

Proponents of school choice don't give a shite about education quality either.
That is absolutely wrong. It is the proponents of school choice that care the most.

more opportunity for corporate profits
What does that mean? Is profits something bad? Do you think the government should run grocery stores to keep the "profit" out of it?

If this is your belief, who should be in charge of educating the SPED student and who should be responsible for his/hers score improvement/decline?

They are everywhere. Workers get to chose which exploitative business they work for. Not slaves because we get to pick our poison.
Are you denying that wages have been stagnant while management and CEO salaries have exploded?

I dont remember what the ACT score was but when I was at SLU I'm pretty sure you had to have a 3.0 to get in the education program

Yes I do understand. MFP is far from all the funding they get.

No I have not forgotten anything. I know for example that there are outrageous requirements on public schools that do nothing to help things. I would be quite willing to raise vouchers amounts for handicapped kids and I bet you the families of handicapped kids would love the choices that would create.

Why are there waiting lines for charter schools?
Transportation will take care of itself if education was completely voucher. Do you think a for profit school that would be getting the example $16600 voucher would let transportation issues prevent them from getting the kid to their school?
You people are grasping for reasons to continue to mandate family education matters.

One of the biggest obstacles to improving teacher quality is, oddly enough, the requirements to become a teacher and the existence of education degrees.
Alas, the teachers LOVE those rules because they create job security.

Not across the board. We can't sent our kids anywhere but the district we live. That school is 25 minutes away while the best school in the area is 8 minutes. We homeschool.

I have kids from Lincoln in my school and it is in another county. You can send them anywhere in county for free, do you want to pay though if out of county? It is up to you, but you can send them anywhere.
That is why they made Parkview into a Magnet School also

Because it will be a meritocracy - there will be no more "tenure over all" mentality.

We checked when we moved to our new house and were told school choice was not in effect at this time and that hasn't changed since. I really don't think this applies everywhere at all times.

I am in NWA so it is been effect in Benton County for certain and somewhat in Washington.

Presuming you're referring to school choice, choice is choice.
We were in a position to send our kids anywhere. We used a combination of private and public resources in way that maximally advantaged them, and advanced their education.
Without vouchers/choice/supplement/scholarship, the vast majority of parents could not afford to do for their kids what we did for ours. If we can change that with school choice, we should do it.
