Why is there still such a shortage of Nintendo classic systems?

Shouldn't Nintendo be able to crank out millions of these things?

Absolutely they could..........

Just build your own Raspberry Pi machine with Retropie and load roms yourself. It's the best decision I made when trying to buy the Classic. Now I have thousands of games across several consoles and my kids love it. Not too hard to do either.

To generate demand and make it seem exclusive (i.e. create that "I gotta have one" feeling).

"A nightclub that's called Eclipse, that's only open 2 days of the year. What's the cover charge? Five thousand dollars! I can do this all day."
This is a terrible way to generate demand, but not unheard of. It is something I wish Nintendo didn't do, and that they trusted their products more (what makes them do this is the same thing that keeps them from "blowing their wad" with VC stop. They want to control the release way too much).
They do feel the pressure to be different, and they feel contempt from the media, from a certain segment of consumers, and utilize a practice like this to manufacture "positivity." It's totally understandable, but completely wrong at the same time.

dead serious im thinking of doing this but dont have the time. how is the quality and gameplay?
I saw ads for these types of machines on ebay and wondered if they were legit. i would love this

The actual build of the machine takes no time at all. The most time consuming part is formatting the Micro sd, installing retropie, and downloading/installing the roms. It goes much faster if you know somebody with the roms already that will let you have them. I wouldn't let time discourage you. I know basically nothing about computers and I was able to do it all by myself in a couple of hours after getting roms from a friend.

glad that the shortage is making people realize that the raspberry pie is better in every single way imaginable

There are hundreds of worse games than ET on Atari. Really strange how that game got so notorious

I bet there will be a shortage of the nintendo switch coming out too...
Well, they didn't short the Wii, but demand far outweighed supply.
And this just came out:
Nintendo chief Kimishima said the firm plans to increase production of Switch, pre-oder status so far good.
Tweet, so no source, and I can't read Japanese so there's that.
Another article:

So the high number of pre-orders has got to be great news for the company. The Japanese audience has already pre-ordered 80 percent of the Switch allotment for the country and it’s selling out elsewhere. At the briefing, detailed over on Bloomeberg, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said that the company want to increase production for the Switch as they have “huge expectations based on how Switch reservations are doing.”

Assume I'm an idiot, I see several kits on Amazon. Which one will get this done?
