Going back to the Julio trade, they gave up a lot for him and it took a while for the trade to payoff. Sure he was always legit, but it left the roster very thin.

Now they actually have a pretty stacked roster. They remind me of us in 2009 where their backups can come in and there isn't much drop off. Another offseason and Quinn will have more pieces to add to their D, creating a Seattle-esque defense.

Silver lining will be Shanahan leaving for a HC gig.

One hit wonder.

It looks that way but I'm hoping a devastating Super Bowl loss will crush their spirits and they will regress back to their old ways.

They'll have a superbowl (win or loss) hangover that will allow us to run the table in the division next year

Their offense is built for success. They spent money wisely. We spent money on spiller.

No maybe yes? All I know is I'm having happier thoughts concerning the birds.

They have a great team

Having the luck they've had on their offensive line this season won't happen every year though

Everyone said the same thing last year about the Panthers.

There's too much parity in the league

Same thing was said about the Panthers last year. Not to mention the 2015 Panthers were much better overall compared to the Falcons. When they lose in two weeks it's back to the bottom.

You could've said the same thing about Carolina last year and look how that turned out

I disagree.

a few years ago people were gushing all over Seattle's future with their dominant D.

haven't won a Super Bowl since (probably should have though) if not for a bone head play call.

Green Bay was looking sharp after their 2010 season.. haven't even made it back to the SB since.

the NFL is watered down now.

New England is the most steady team going now but thankfully at least they are in the AFC.

What's sad is that over the last 5 to 7 years, our division hasn't been that great, we have a HOF quarterback, and we didn't take advantage of it.

Sad reality is that no one can predict when and where the injury bug will hit. The Falcons might be good next year or they could lose all of their running backs, half of their OL and Julio to various injuries.

You never know. Free agency causes a lot of turnover in all 32 teams every year. The Panthers went 15-1 last year and sucked this year

I agree with you. I think the Falcons will be good for a while. I also think the Panthers are going to bounce back pretty quick.

The Saints are in a tough spot, competition-wise. Even the Bucs aren't a pushover anymore. The NFC South is a lot harder than most people on the national scene think.

Even if the Saints improve next year, quality-wise, there's no guarantee we will see much movement record-wise.

quote:

creating a Seattle-esque defense

I hate when announcers and people say this. It's like just because it's Quinn and the Falcons say it, then it must be true. Nothing of their defense reminds me of Seattle's defense no more than it reminds me of any other defense.
And no, that stupid rookie Neal is not "Kam Chancellor". Just stop with the comparison because no one is doing that kid any justice. There is only one Kam Chancellor and that is why he is who he is. Neal is a good football player but he is not an enforcer the way Kam is.

Hmmm, I remember another team from our division making the SB last year and finishing last this year in the division. Maybe that becomes the new trend for our division. First to last instead of last to first.
