So how bad does the Solomon Hill signing look now?

I was playing around in the NBA trade machine, and accidentally clicked on Solomon Hill's player profile. His PER is under 8 and he is basically averaging his paltry career numbers (6 points, 3 rebounds). I remember reading that Dell thought an increased role would improve his overall numbers, but outside of his defense, he is awful.

If only someone could have seen this coming, and not been labeled a pessimist, but a realist......

Yes. Especially when you look at what James Johnson is doing on a 1 yr/$4m deal in Miami.

Or Ennis at 2/6, or the guy I wanted Ian Clark on the minimum

I tried to pull some advanced stats out of my arse to show that he could improve as a player. He shot corner threes well and is an elite ft shooter. Coupled with his defense I thought he could improve.
I was dead wrong.

It's just crazy that we went all in on him so early in the free agency process. This just seemed like a guy who we could've gotten for significantly lower by just being patient.

i mean, it was always going to be an overpay unless he could get to about 37% from 3.
same time, they brought him and Moore in to improve the defense. lo and behold they have the 7th ranked defense in the league and the best defense since going small on 12/26. seems like they are getting what they paid for to me.

Demps is really awful at valuing and evaluating the SF position. Even with Ariza he set expectations too high.
When it happened I tried to convince myself, but I never quite could. The closest I came was me liking his intangibles and hoping that would translate.

demps has a poor track record of bringing in low-usage players and expecting similar/better production at much higher usage rates. notice that when ariza went back to doing what he does best, all of a sudden he's back to being valuable
its hard to be efficient at high usage rates...that's why good high usage players are so valuable, and why the pelicans have struggled without (another) one

It is certainly a strategy that hasn't scaled up.
He seems to be pretty good, if not great at identifying players that are overlooked or deemed end of the rotation guys that are in fact capable of being solid to really good bench players up to borderline fringe starters: Ish Smith, Brian Roberts, Tim Frazier, Belinelli, Galloway, Cunningham, Morrow, Vasquez etc....Though he isn't good at cashing that skill in which is frustrating.
And he definitely has a blind spot with SF's, even in the above capacity. Letting Ennis and Aminu walk over the years for instance. Frustrating we keep having the same issues and making the same mistakes.

he's finally adapted. I thought he would be a star in the league based on his college play.
maybe some day if he stays healthy. he stunk every time he got on the floor the previous years. You were prescient.

Dude could've been had for way cheaper, which makes it even worse. No one was going to come close to paying that much

Lakers were offering him a similar contract. Gentry promised him he'd start.
