No Sophomore Slump For Marco Rubio

WASHINGTON, D.C. — For a guy who didn’t want to be in the Senate anymore last year, Florida’s Marco Rubio is certainly making a tall glass of lemonade out of the lemons he got running for president in 2016. With a single hearing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee this week, Rubio went from being the Republican Most Likely to Miss a Vote, a distinction he earned on his way to losing the GOP nomination, to being the Republican Most Likely to Hold Donald Trump’s Feet to the Fire. It’s a role that holds both risks and immense power. That, for Rubio, could be more important than anything.
quote:
It’s a long way from October 2015, when a clearly frustrated freshman Rubio told CNN’s Jake Tapper that he had amassed the worst voting record in the Senate and was running for president because being in the Senate just didn’t matter much anymore. “I’m not missing votes because I’m on vacation,” he said. “I’m running for president so that the votes they take in the Senate are actually meaningful again.”
It turns out that Rubio didn’t have to win the White House for his vote to matter again. With an 11-10 split on the Foreign Relations Committee between Republicans and Democrats, Rubio holds the crown jewel of Trump’s Cabinet in his hands. Suddenly, the man Trump derided as “Little Marco” isn’t so little anymore.
quote:
For Rubio at least, it’s clear that 2017 is already different from the years he has spent in the Senate before. He hasn’t missed a single vote.

This nasty hit piece on Marco by the failing Daily World does show however how Marco is now the de facto Republican leader in the Senate. His tea party roots have grown and he is now the only man in Congress who has the clout or authority to take on changing the course of Obama's failed administration.

He really helped the GOP House and Senate wimp-out under Obama.

meh, OP was a big Marco guy all through the primaries
then he went to Hillary for a minute, but to be fair, he came around to MAGA at the end
And we are FAR better off having Rubio in the Senate than we would have been had he lost.

If that's true, he would stop being wishy washy and give Tillerson his job and let Trump have his complete first cabinet in good faith.

Your boy is nothing more than the GOPe version of Obama. A carefully crafted charismatic 'diverse' Manchurian candidate meant to serve the interests of monied people who made him.

I keep trying to root for Marco but...just...

And for the record, attempting to put Trump in a box on Russia publicly like that was one of the most unwise things I have seen in recent years. Total grandstanding that serves no constructive purpose. He could have had his question answered off the record had he wanted an answer .

He is being tough but far to Tillerson. He isn't going to rubber stamp someone because he's told to by the establishment.

With his head that far up Rubio's arse, he can probably tell us what Rubio had for breakfast
